How about a candy or cookie jar that you can refill once a month with something different (preferably something with your logo on it)? You will always be in their thoughts which may result in future orders.

What's so special about Christmas for marketing? How about:

Cheryl's Cookies for President's Day
World's Finest Chocolate for Valentine's Day
A 14 month Calendar for Thanksgiving
Pizza for Independence Day

Giving of gifts, rebates, paying for appraisal is not a violation of USPAP. Failure to disclose is.

Where do you draw the line? It's a judgement call on your part. I know what I feel comfortable in doing but that's just me.

I order appraisals as well as do them. I never remember popcorn, cookies, calendars or cards. I do have a nice case pocket knife that I have carried for about 5 years. It has an appraisal company name on it. I think it probably did its job. Of course the appraiser and I are ag guys, it may not be a good idea for city dwellers.

Coupon good for one December appraisal - Fee $250.

Go to each lender loan office in your town and give them only ONE(1).

Basically your asking for a bone!

Best idea yet. No cash out of your pocket. The $250 limit is for what type of report? 2055, 1004? Your limit should be market competititive. I don't like 2055s so I would make it for a 1004.

However, I have never given gifts to clients other than a major discount if they have me appraise their own home. I cannot say whether or not it would get you any additional business.

You may not run afoul of USPAP, but watch your state regs. For example, Texas has a cap on gift values. Just something else to worry about.
