California Hospital Association Slams Back at Nurse Union Following Patient's Death

http://sanfrancisco.ibtimes.com/art...ollowing-patient-death-judith-ming-alamed.htm

Nearly ten days have passed since Judith Ming died at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center and the investigation is far from being complete.

On Sept. 22, around 23,000 nurses left their position and joined a one- day strike, whose purpose is to support mental health workers at Kaiser Permanent involved in a contract dispute at the same time. But it is the one- day strike that led to the patient’s death.

The replacement nurse gave the patient an overdose of medication, which caused death of Ming.

Yes it is. There are protests and strikes here that are not occurring across the U.S. California has the Greece mentality of the extreme socialist state.

Time for an education campaign on panhandlers

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2011/09/30/BAUS1LBU4A.DTL

The original premise of Care Not Cash was "housing first." Once homeless people were in housing, proponents said, other problems would diminish. That hasn't happened.

As The Chronicle reported last month, complaints from tourists about panhandlers have skyrocketed. And if something isn't done, the problem could damage our No. 1 industry - tourism.

The last time I was confronted by a panhandler was in the middle of an oil boom in Oklahoma City. IF they had wanted a job, there were plenty available. .... just a drunk.

But we have a crowd that comes around in a van, usually about 4 adults with children... claims to be collecting donations for an orphanage often using a rubber boot or plastic bucket, like the Fire Dept. do for MD...They stage on at least 3 corners with signs, often in small towns with only one stop light or at lights remote from the central part of town. By the time the county mountie gets there, they've packed up and left or quickly do so...off to the next light.

California's counties brace for an influx of inmates

http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-1001-realignment-20111001,0,2285637.story

Local officials across California are bracing to manage more parolees and nonviolent felons as a new law goes into effect Saturday requiring them to take on what had long been a state responsibility.

The change is a result of budget pressures and a U.S. Supreme Court decision that required the state to lower its prison population by 30,000 inmates due to overcrowding.

Under the new law, prisoners who commit nonviolent and non-sex-related crimes, such as low-level drug offenders or thieves, will be kept in county jails instead of going to state facilities. And, when released, those prisoners will be left for county probation officials to monitor.

Los Angeles County supervisors have bemoaned the change, saying it could lead to a surge in crime and lawsuits.
