I used to always get Marshall & Swift "Home Repair & Remodel cost guide" but they don't make those books anymore. Is there one that you would recommend? Thanks!
Order your Craftsman books thru Amazon and you don't get a bunch of emails touting other products.
I use the Craftsman books, much cheaper than M & S. I like the Insurance version - It is called the National Insurance and Renovation Repair Estimator.
It was a CD but you download the program now and use the serial number to put on the computer... no log in after it is loaded, and you can create a print out of the estimate. Read the docs with it, and/or tutorials. It isn't that difficult to understand after an initial effort.
Under View hit the split window (cost book and estimate window) and the index window and you can locate the item, highlight it and drag to the estimate.
Thanks! I felt I needed a book right away and ordered the "RSMeans Contractor's Pricing Guide" I've not used it yet.....at first glace it looks complicated. Today, I just needed one repair for a foreclosure report and used homewyse.com - that was fast and easy! However, I really like the idea of the "Craftsman" especially since it sounds like it could replace my using the M & S online estimator all the time and to have print outs for repair/replacement estimates. So.....thanks to all of you for your replies.
Means was still a book unless you buy the software pkg. NBC is a book but you can download their software from the code in the book and it is much easier to use than Means but Means commercial book has individual items that NBC's cost book does not have.
