The sale idea is getting our attention! I work on 3 computers (desktop at the office, desktop at home and a laptop) and my partner works on 2 - a desktop and laptop. That's a lot of installs if we try to cover all the bases.

We've been unhappy with our present product for a long time and have been wanting to make a change. Remember previous conversations about this, Bill? I think that after watching all the forums and reading the various posts we've about decided we want to go Apex.

From all of the previous conversations we (from the bradford forum) know I have been an advocate of Apex for quite some time. I still have a problem here and there on creating my own icons but then again they have taught me how to modify the way certain things look on the screen. I know if I wanted to I could draw a killer floor plan using Apex. I know Apex and Winsketch are suppose to be very similar, but using Apex to me at least is so much easier.

I still have that IPAQ that your company bought for me May, 2004. The only problem now is that it won't hold a charge or even charge up and the local Comp USA doesn't recognize the model number (must be a canadian pda). Is there a special battery for that I should know about?

The iPAQ you have was infamous for having battery issues. Updating the ROM to the most current for that device solved this. But it sounds like you're having more or a hardware issue.

I'll take a look around here to see if we even have any of those older batteries lying around. If I locate one, I'll see what I can do about getting it to you. Otherwise, you might consider "Googling" for the battery and see if you can find someone who still offers it.

I'll let you know what I come up with.

I checked with Randy and he said he would see if he could find his source for 3rd party batteries. In the mean time, he suggested that you contact his friend Leonard at www.pocketpctechs.com to see if they could reset or repair the battery condition issue(s). They do not list an extended replacement part for your model, but maybe they have another solution. Randy says Leonard is a first rate guy and knows his stuff. Through Google, I found a replacement battery at http://tinyurl.com/7qqqv for $42.77 but before going that far I would suggest doing a hard reset on the PPC with your charge cable connected and see if it comes up. If that works, while on power, I would see about applying the latest ROM upgrade to the device, then see if it will charge and hold the charge. I also found stuff for the 5000 series at http://tinyurl.com/akjfk and they show both the standard and extended batteries, though the price is a little higher. I noticed that they show a special Torx tool needed to remove the cover on the 5000 series. One other option for extended battery type things is the add-on battery sleeve. I know that we used these in the past, before we all moved up to more modern Pocket PC's, so I am guessing we have a few of these we might be willing to let go of pretty inexpensively - assuming I can find them, of course. But just adding this to the unit as is probably will not fix the problem you are having. You will need to get it booted up first. Having said all this, I am sure Randy would advise that you consider getting a high resolution PPC with a more modern operating system on it before dumping a lot of money into and older machine. We like the HP hx4700 the best, but the Dell X50v is also popular. Here is a link to our page where there are reviews, etc. http://tinyurl.com/dklpp I believe I have seen the X50v for sale at $399 or $418 if you include the WM5 upgrade CD. The hx4700 runs in the $450 - $520 range - a bit more than the Dell, but it has a larger and better screen and larger battery.

You're not going to believe this but I wouldn't have thought it would make a difference since it appeared the battery was dead dead but I hit the reset button and now it appears to be charging. Mind you, I know everything that was on there that was added will be gone but it does seem to be charging now. Now it is just a matter of wait and see...

I will check out your information but I don't see paying $400 for a battery when I can get a whole new PDA for that amount or less.

I downloaded the latest version of Apex, and it's a nice program with many advanced features. There does appear to be a bit of a learning curve, though, and I don't believe it is yet integrated with ClickForms.

Anyway, I had my credit card out this morning for the big sale--but no such luck. I think Wayne has concerns with vendors using this forum to sell their software. Perhaps my original grand-opening-sale posting was out of order.

WinSketch does what I need done, and my work is slow, so I'll stick with it for a while longer.
