This is the first in a series of three polls. Please vote in all three.

All three are targeted at current trainees and people who have been supervised within the past 5+/- years. I am trying to get a fairly current idea of the Supervisor/trainee model and it's effectiveness (or lack). Please refrain from voting if you don't fit that description - but feel free to comment.

If you've had multiple supervisors, please vote based on the actions of the worst one.

Don't you think the phrasing of your poll question displays just a little bit of your own personal bias?

Do you mean the use of "bad"? Perhaps I should not have done that, but I can't edit the title.

I think I've posted my thoughts often enough for people to know I don't care for the supervisor idea. I'm curious if the polls will prove me wrong.

Or do you mean something else.

May I ask what you hope to accomplish or what you intend to do with the information?

I'm curious. I see a great deal of posts that involve poor supervision. I'd like to get an idea of just how pervasive it is.

Umm, I'd say the phrasing of the poll options shows a bit of bias, as well. Reminds me of some of the political polls I've taken over the years.

Feel free to re-phrase it and post another poll.

Flawed Poll!

You should allow multiple options. I left one supervisor who could justify just about anything shy of making up his own sales--which he later got busted for...to another supervisor who was really bad--and I ended up in front of the board.

I went from duck to l'orange in about 3 weeks from moving to a new supervisor...

The irony of it all was I thought my first supervisor was criminally insane and that my second one walked on water. I think my goose would have been cooked no matter who I stayed with. Both of them now have multiple infractions with the local board.

It is the blind leading the naked, this current style. There needs to be some sort of periodic "check up" where you turn in a log every 6 months to the board where they can call lenders and spot check your stuff. Or some sort of something along those lines.

That or these lenders need to start kicking more appraisers to the curb.

My Momma used to say, stupid is as stupid does. Well, yeah--but stupid also does what stupid teaches it to do. And that is the problem with our system. Even if it doesn't happen to be overrun with skippy's, they are guaranteed to continue to reproduce after their own kind.

Edited to add: But my THIRD supervisor was fantastic, and didn't want any part of the BS out there. He didn't have USPAP memorized, he had Ten other laws he lived by, and they kept him from violating all the others.

You seemed interested in what else might show personal bias. That jumped out at me. Sorry if I misunderstood.

My personal bias is that I had a fantastic supervisor who is known for his ethics and his ability to deal with difficult appraisal problems. I don't see the problem with the system that some do, and I have no need to create a competing poll.

larryroscoe1 -

I limited it to the worst in order not to muddy the results. Polls #2 and #3 are meant to identify how many had both good and bad supervisors.

You make some good points in your post - I think many of us had a mixed bag of training.
