How do you write the addendum in your appraisal reports?

Do you write your addendum in the first person or third person?

I write in the third person or without reference to a person. For me, that's a habit the came from being a science major in college.

FWIW, most home inspection reports I can recall use the pronoun, 'I'. Most survey reports I can recall use third person.

Dang, where is the hanging preposition grammar queen when we need her here?

This appraiser strives (I strive) to never use the word 'I' in a report.
I know an instructor who uses first person saying you should be willing to take responsibility for your own work. "I did this. I did that." It wasn't some third person.

My addendums are for graphs, maps, and photos because my entire report is narrative.

In the appraisers opinion and judgement, there is no correct way. Sometimes it may be in the first person, other times as a third person.

I'm the one doing the writing and I'm the appraiser so why refer to myself other than...myself?

Exactly! In a Review I do certain things. I reviewed all relevant data. I observed this or that I also state what, The Appraiser did or did not .... The Appraiser did not include ....

Just say what you mean and mean what you say.

I'd rather read a complete well developed report that is full of grammatical errors than a report that is devoid of comment but is so Grammatically correct your high School English Teacher would beam with pride.

Except in your certifications. "I have .... " "I performed ...." "I have not knowingly..."
Also, one could use/add, "Provider" (IE: sketch section / addendum - comments)
English Language Learners Definition of provider. : a group or company that provides a specified service.
If one were using their company name on the report (Brand) and you are part of the company (owner/president - DBA )
Just a thought

It is my opinion that 3rd person sounds less professional. I did the work, I determined the Scope of Work and I reconciled the opinion of value.
Nonsense. First person is bush league. Almost as bad as typing in all caps.
