How Many Appraisals Do You Complete Each Week?

13-18 per week with one amazing office manager, (wifey). We cherry pic because we can, 14 years experience in the market.
I just can't imagine that volume Terra and we're in the same area. Then again I'm solo - wifey tried to help out a few times but just wasn't her thing; too boring (I don't blamer her - typing isn't the most fun part of the job!) Glad you're doing well and I'm not complaining either. I enjoy my pace too. Salut'
(Edit to add: 12 yrs deep myself this Aug - CR 9yrs)

i agree. be the example for all of us.

And you would you also say the same for some of the best appraisers I have known that have changed jobs. You realize your fight to continue to eliminate appraisers is futile, don’t you?

We can chat more about employee/independent contractor laws if you like. Please expound.

The way the collect our data, you would think we are employees. Never mind the fact of preset appointments. Their forms, guidelines, rules, reviews, rov's, but where are the benefits? Unions would never stand for such behavior.

Guess I am truly blessed! I was doing 2 a week following my hip replacement two years ago when the then VA valuation chief in Denver suggested it would be very helpful if I could 3 a week because of the back log for El Paso county. I said I could do it. The fee for VA appraisals in El Paso County is $750. You can do the math. I actually would prefer to go back to 2 but the wife is retiring in October after 30 years with Sam's Club so that will mean I need to make up for her salary.

It's common to get assignments here that require driving as much as 100 miles round trip and not leave the county. I only work 1 county but know a number of VA appraisers who work two or three and drive more than 30,000 miles a year. I'm not that hungry. At my age, 76, it takes me a lot longer to complete an assignment. The last time I tried to figure out exactly how much time I came up with 5-6 hours but now I think that is more like 7-8 hours from start to finish for a typical assignment. I do work alone so I have to do everything myself and that includes about 4 hours a week doing work associated with running a business such as accounting functions. My business address is a UPS store and I go to it daily Monday through Saturday. Little things like car maintenance also take time and then there is continuing education functions also.

God bless those appraisers who think they can do 10 to 15 assignments a week. That's a great way to burn yourself out in a big hurry and also a wreck waiting to happen. I can honestly say I am in my 38th year of residential appraising and I have never had to go to court to defend my work. Other than answering two inquiries from our state board concerning work by other appraisers, I have never had an issue with my appraisals. I'm sure most of you know the story of the young bull and the old bull standing on the hill and looking down in the meadow at a herd of cows. The young bull said to the old bull...."lets run down there and get one of those cows!". The old bull said to the young bull....,"hell son, lets just walk down there and get them all!". That's me...I don't run any more...just take my time and enjoy still working at 76 years of age.

Cheers,

The old guy

Thank you for not burning me for my production rate. I don't plan on keeping up this 12-14 hour per day pace forever. I am looking forward to investing in the real estate market and utilizing my knowledge to make wise investments in the housing market.

Volume like that goes a long way towards establishing the C&R fees in your market. I hope you’re getting good compensation for your long hours

I don't have a problem with doing 20+ appraisals a day
but if you want it supported and on paper, following GSE requirements, I typically have averaged 1 appraisal every 2 days.
