My first computer class was programming in Basic using punched tape and an HP computer the size of a refrigerator. I also got to take Fortran and PL/1 using punched cards. The punched cards were a big improvement because you didn't have to start over for a typo.

I broke my computer cherry on an IBM 360 and a PDP10. The Digital computers were the first available to me with a CRT display. Thought I had died and went to heaven. We all had a party burning punch-cards.

First computer experience was in a political science course at uc berkeley doing a poll and turning in punch cards in 1971 to the computer lab. I walked the neighborhoods and took down the data and inputed results to the computer lab. Don't remember the subject of the poll but will never forget some of those whose doors i knocked on as a student.

WATFIV - Waterloo Fortran IV. a memory hungry obsolete language spoken by no one, not even the Canadians who invented it.

I struggled with Fortran, but once I got the hang of it, analyzing field data was a snap. Used it for about 3 years and never wrote another line.

Just don't shuffle that deck of punch cards.
I think I created one.
The green screen terminal with text version of dungeons and dragons was more interesting.
And harder to get computer seat time for. :leeann2:

2 laptops, 2 PC’s. I give them away as four will suffice. 2 for crypto mining when Im not using them (every little bit helps).

Currently, not as many as I have!!
