I Knew This Would Happen!

Use system restore and go back in time to a point when it still worked.

I tried....it would appear that system restore had never been turned on. I have had this laptop for the same amount of time with zero problems, and I assumed--ha ha--that it was on...I just never needed it. What a dumb *** I am for not checking that.

At any rate, I think I still have the disks, but if not, I will try to use the download.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Before you do anything.
Find these 2 files Wintotal.ldf and wintotal.mdf
save them to the desktop. reinstall wintotal from scratch, without deleting it, just over write it, then replace these two files from where thay came. I think their in the
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL$ALAMODE\Data
directory. this will save all of you preferences.

BTW, regarding a System Restore. Most people like to think of that as a cure-all for PC problems. It definitely is not! Want to know what system restore will do?

It will rollback your registry, your WINDOWS system files and drivers. Nothing else. So if you have a file that is corrupt for your program, no amount of system restores will ever fix it. The chance of a system restore fixing a problem with a non-windows program? Slim, very very slim.

But on the other hand, it usually won't cause additional problems to try it out.

I wish they would just come out and say if you don't pay for support, you can't use the program.
I have an old install of WinTOTAL from my time with a company in Florida that works just fine, and I have not been on their support plan for more than 2 years.

Is this a WinTotal issue only or are you having any other issues with any other programs? If it is only an issue with WinTotal, backup the database files as noted, delete the alamode directories on the root drive and one in Program Folders then use cccleaner as recommended to remove the rest of their entries. Reinstall, replace WinTotal's databases. Your license is good for as long as needed, you don't need a service contract with them. I do because I need updated forms and support from time to time.

I just paid the #$@ fee. Hopefully they will be calling back to walk me through the process of fixing this.

thanks, I did try some of the fixes, but I may have made matters worse.

At any rate, I should be back up and running today.

Well, it seems Alamode stop mapping for sure when you don't renew. I too find it extremely difficult to pay $300 when business is declining. I do my own FEMA maps, etc. Also doesn't WinTotal want you to buy xsites to be a part of their new 'in-the-works' management company? Or did I misread the ads? I can't afford another website. Why is it prices go up when income declines?
