I need help with the certification test

Re-study all of your AB-I and AB-II course materials. Go through USPAP a couple or five times. If you didn't take adequate notes in your AB classes you're going to have a hard time of it. You may want to pick up a book that preps you for the test. Whatever you end up using you need to go through each chapter and take the quizzes and tests for each. Make sure you score 90% or better. If you score lower go through the chapter again. There's nothing hard about the material. It's just tedious and a lot of information. If you're making 90% or better on the quizzes and practice tests then you'll probably pass the state test. Don't feel rushed to take the state test. Take it when you're through studying and feeling confident. Some of the trickiest questions on my state test were directly out of my AB-I study material which were not in the AB-I book.

I think that is my plan. Take the test COLD. Get a feel for the test center, drive time, computer and test material. Odds are you will not pass it on the first try anyways so make the first experience a learning one.
Unfortunatly it is $96 a pop per test in my state......nice.

I am studying the 1001 questions book. Very thick book.

Hey Jtip

That would not be my recommendation as I passed the exam on the first attempt. However, the rumor is the passing rate on the first attempt is atrocious but I would definitely try to study your butt off. Do you really want to shell out the $96 twice? I’m cheap and didn’t want to pay $54 twice. About 2 weeks prior to the exam my life consisted of appraisals during the day and studying at night. I don't think I had one beer during this time but I had several immediately after the exam.:new_all_coholic:

I was able to get a copy of the new AB-1 book (100 hour course) and I can tell you this book was a life saver as compared to my worthless 75 hour AB-2 book. (I still re-read this book cover to cover prior to the exam) I've attached a picture of the new AB-1 book so if you can get a copy I would highly recommend it. Other than that I agree with the other posts and re-read, re-read, re-read EVERYTHING!!!

I am in the same boat as the op. My math skills are nil. For me it would be worth a half day and $100 to get a feel for the test and have a clear view of what to focus my studies on.
Heck, it only took me 4 years to get this far....what's another $100:laugh:

Complete your study materials FIRST. Then go take it. It's not going to do you any good to take it before you're ready. Trust me. I took the test twice. The first time was at the urging (read that, none stop pushing) by my boss to take it. I failed. The second time around I had backbone. I studied consistently for 3 weeks then took it a second time and passed.

I took it a the height of the refi boom. I didn't have time to study and I forgot about scheduling the test until the afternoon before I was supposed to take it. Figured it was too late so I just went back to working.

The next morning I took the test and was sure I failed. I was shocked and thrilled when the proctor said "Pass."

You really should do your studying before you go take the test first time around. This way, you can breeze through the questions you know and dedicate more time to the questions you do not know so well, yet still make an educated guess.

You should never assume that you are not going to pass it!!!! I studied hard and I passed the new Cert exam first time around.

Thank you all for the advice. Hopefully I will pass the first time. I will let you all know how I do.
