...but I sincerely wish all of you a blessed Passover, Resurrection Day and/or whatever you may find yourself doing this weekend.

Best,

Dave...

Gosh Forsaken Heckhole is the correct term I think.
I guess the south side of Chicago is still the baddest part of town. :peace:

I grew up in Illinois. Back then it was a great place to live, and grow up.

Someone said it was a nice place except north of Cairo... :)

As a kid we went through Cairo, first de-branded Holiday Inn that I had ever seen. Literally pulled the logos down but they were recognizable by shadowing/staining left behind.

That was on a trip to Fort Polk to visit my basic training older brother. Boy did we some houses on the way. Unbelievable that some people who were born and raised in America lived like that.

That was part of my parents lessons on that trip. I will never forget it.

Thanks for sharing that, DTB, and I hope life’s treating you well...

My mother, who recently turned 91, was born in Cairo and lived there until the early 1940's before moving to La Cañada Flintridge, CA. Few years ago she returned to see the old farm and tried to envision the areas where she rode her horse. Memories stick forever, old farms not so much.

I was born in Peoria, and we lived in several town with dad following promotions. We had people in Streator, Henry, Lacon..... We had a great old house in Kewanee except it was right across the street from the Boiler Works. Back then Elgin watches were actually made in Elgin and several of our circle worked there.
