I was in the 12 hour days, and when a friend at Fannie called, I answered. 7.5 hour days, vacation, etc. Best decision I ever made. Zero stress, just do the job, head down, move on.

Appraising, when I started, was a profession. Sorry, not any more. Real estate agents get more respect, even used car dealers.

I like you FC. If I had a job opening in a business that would suit you, you would be hard to pass up in my book. I wish you and your family the very best.

You are definitely among a group with many elites in your decision. Sad but true.

Good luck! I recommend still popping in, even if you don't post. I used to post a bunch but over the last several years I mostly read/skim the further I get from the residential world (it was part of my business through 2007). It is worth checking to see what is being discussed.

good luck, and make sure you pickup tail coverage for your E&O. while we are on the hook for 5 years most tail coverage is only offered for 3 but (i personally feel) it is necessary.

I haven't been at this even that long but I'm already at the point where I'm looking for something else. My wife is tired of me working nights and weekends when things back up. I applied for a federal job last month (GS-11) and the interview went well. I'm hoping to hear back any day now. Depending on negotiations pay will work out to be about the same, maybe even a bit higher, but with a lot less stress and regular hours. Plus some crazy stuff like paid time off and vacations. My other benefits are pretty comparable but the main thing is just getting away from the long hours. If that doesn't work out hopefully I can find something else. Just not sure I still want to be doing this 5-10 years from now.

Sounds like you are on the home stretch to getting your MAI and want to make a career change after all that trouble?
This job is a constant grind and only seems to get more stressful as the years go on. Up to about 5-years ago, every single appointment had someone asking me how long I've been doing this. Those questions have fallen off of a cliff and actually, someone asked me the other day if I went to school with his cousin who is 55...
I'd like to slow down a little, but still consider myself fortunate to have found a job that utilizes my skill set well. Not that many people can say that.

Best of luck in your next endeavors. I made the same decision 4 years ago. I was a full time student and full time fee appraiser. Couldn't take the pressure of both. Got a government assessment job, keep my license and recently started do fee work on the side. What the future holds for anyone, have not idea. But giving myself options was the best decision I've even made.

I'm sure holding the office of the commish takes a toll.....
Especially with this competitive bunch!!!!

fcrecords...

Good luck to you....

I left a few years ago and now sell cat T shirts on the internet. The best thing I ever did. I ditched my license last year too. Never ever going back. I did learn a lot about RE but overall I wasted 6 years of my life doing appraising ad trying to run an honest business in a corrupt environment.
