I put this in improving the profession because no doubt this news will be seen as such by some. I am walking away from appraisal, or at least as a full-time gig and entirely from mortgage work.

I started 12 years ago and thought I would retire as an appraiser. I have hemmed and hawed over this career change in the past couple of months and finally last week I had the epiphany, today I took action and applied for my first job outside of appraisal. I intend to keep my license current because it was not easy to get one in the first place. I will likely do the occasional job. What I will not do, is another mortgage appraisal. Y'all enjoy yourselves if that's your thing.

I suppose I will come on here occasionally in the future, but I suspect once I start to actually work during the day it will be pretty rare. I will be curious to see if anything ever changes.

Good luck.

Wise move to keep the license; too hard to re-acquire.

Good luck to you in your future endeavors.

Best of luck to you! Decisions like this are hard. A good choice to keep your license and it might suit you better as side money- I enjoy your posts and hope you check in once in a while !

Can't say that I blame you! Good luck with your new choices

Best of luck. Smart to keep your license. I don't think this AMC model will last forever. Just not a model that can sustain itself. The sooner it changes, the better.

I've thought about leaving also. I have enough experience and enough contacts to get a higher job in many different fields. But I still enjoy this and make a decent enough living. So for now, I'll stay. But when you have options, it makes it less and less likely to put up with typical AMC BS. Not a bad place to be.

I did this part time for about 5 years. This is a great part time gig if you have a flexible full time job. But eventually, my "real" job became too much and I left.

FWIW FC, although I haven't always agreed with your posts/views, I've always respected them.

I hope you do keep up your Cert because (my bold) it WASN'T easy to get and definitely something to be proud of (I am at least of mine)

If you do go down the path of a different career, I wish you the best of luck! (y)

Salut' :beer::drinking:

I'm gonna miss you

:cryingsmiley:

But I totally understand.

Come back and visit us on line when you have time. You can still do private work if you keep your license, and you'll be surprised how much more enjoyable the profession is without having to deal with AMCs.

Anyway, I wish you well and hope you don't disappear from here.

Best of luck to you in your future career, whatever it may be.

I walked away three years ago after it got too crazy. Never looked back. My only regret is that I didn't do it earlier. Consider Minnesota. There's good assessment work here. Good hours, good benefits. Recession proof employment. (I left Illinois to do it!)
