Kodak DC 5000 Recall

Speaking of Kodak Cameras: I started out with a DC 50, which I paid $1000 for. Then I got DC 215, which worked really well with a Sandisk loader to the computer to speed up down loading operations. Then I got a new computer with Windows XP and the DC 50 is not compatible with XP so that one is out the window. This week the zoom switch on the DC 215 went out and I took it to send in for repair. I was told that it would cost more to repair than it was worth, so I purchased a new DC 3600 that I have wasted 3 hours on this morning figuring out. After I loaded the new software onto the XP, the old SanDisk loader and camera software won’t work. So Now I have three digital cameras that work great except for a zoom switch, and two of them are useless because the software is not compatible.

Austin,

You might want to check the web sites for the manufacture of the scan disk out. See if they have an XP upgrade for the scan disk. I had to get one for mine and a printer that I have.

question: you say that the computer won't see the DC50 disk in the sandisk under xp? Are the cards interchangable between the 215 and the 50? I don't remember but I think my DC50 & Dc210 could use the same cards.

I recently purchased a DC 215 on Ebay for under $100 new. The total price, including shipping, and a 16 meg card was $112. Thought my DC 210 was headed for the junk pile...then found out I could order the card door directly from Kodak for about $5. Now I have two fully functioning cameras. Nice to have a back up!

Hmmmm, my DC 50 didn't have a disk..had to connect camera to computer with a cable. If you are using Wintotal, you can go to Quickpix configure and add the DC 50 where you select source of images.

My DC 215 is made of metal and looks and feels like a quality camera. I hate to give it up because of a zoom switch but that new DC 3600 with loading dock is new technology and way ahead of the DC 215. Made in China, made of plastic, and weights nothing. Great technology but made of plastic. I really can't complain because I use to spend thousands on film and processing. I could buy a new camera every 6 months and be ahead of the game. With the DC 3600 you plug the camera onto a dock that charges the battery, then you push a button and the pictures transfer to the computer. Has vedio with sound too. Super quality pictures.

My DC5000 got shipped off to Kodak three days ago, prepaid by Kodak. Used my old DcC210Plus for an assignment on Friday. Spent an hour or so last Tuesday making sure the card could be read by the reader, etc.

Funny how soon you forget the settings and control functions on a camera. But all pictures turned out fine. This camera has over 16,200 pictures to its credit. Takes a licking and keeps on ticking. Wonder how long it will take Kodak to do the fix.

Got my DC5000 back yesterday along with a kind note from Kodak and an 8mg flash card for my troubles.

Back in business. The old DC210plus did yeoman's work in the interim.

The price of memory cards has really dropped. Saw a 32 meg card (GE, I think) at the new Target Superstore that just opened this past week for $29. Now if they could just make batteries that would last long enough to shoot 300 pictures we would be in business.

I really love my 210...much more than my 215. It just keeps cranking out pictures to the tune of 30 or 40 a day. Wonder if there is a way to determine how many I have actually shot with it.

Just bought a 3rd set of rechargeable batteries, now I can keep one set in each camera and one set in the charger at all times. Oh, forget to mention GE has come out with a new card reader that accepts all 5 sizes. Priced at $32 at Target...looks like it would be really handy for that office that has people using different cameras and card types.
