I'm sure you know, but just in case you're not aware, the Disto or Bosch is our back up. Most of us (who is not a wannabe appraiser) use the SRX5-K from Sokkia as our main measuring device.

You do have one, right?

.

please tell me why you feel that way about sokkia vs. Disto or Bosch, I have a measuring tape and wheel and I am looking to purchase the right laser......

LOL, it was a joke. Did you happen to catch the price of the sokkia on that link?

bought thru Amazon.com, Bosch only has one hand held model, it was $80 which included shipping .does everything the disto 4 does

Just casting a vote for the Disto D5, which has been a god send for me. The triangulation alone has saved me so much time, especially for those second story PIA extrusions. Yeah, it takes a few inspections to get the hang of it, but well worth it. Combine it with a small belt pouch for the camera, Disto, pencils, business cards, and Supra key, both your hands are free for your clipboard or tablet. You can't go wrong, and although pricey, it's a small price to pay.

The Bosch does triangulation as well...for $400 less than the Disto D5.

I think the Pointfinder display monitor with a 4x zoom is the real selling point of the D5. It is difficult to see any laser on a bright day on light surfaces over 40 feet away.

Well, I'm thoroughly guilty of purchasing brand over function. ;)

The digital display with zoom is great, and I use it on pretty regular basis out here in sunny California. Although, I would mention that the refresh on the screen is low so it can take a second or two for the D5 to catch up with your movements.

And yeah, as was mentioned in an earlier post, the class II laser does make a pretty big difference, both for sunny days and for those 100+ foot walls that occasionally pop up.

Yeah, the bosch is a class II laser as well. Maybe I'll replace the laser diode with a class 20...that way I can take out a few crows with it when I'm bored. :)

have you ever used the red glasses? I was wondering if they helped much.

Yeah, a few times, but I've never really felt they helped all that much. Seems just about as difficult to find the dot. Then again, the glasses give everything a nice marinara sauce tone, so there is that. :new_tomato:
