Has anyone tried the Disto Laser measui=ring device? If so, is it really as accurate as they claim? How can you be sure you're measuring from corner to corner when you are standing 10-20 ft from the target you're measuring? Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Push the search button and enter Disto. You will find a gold mine of info.

I stick a screw driver down in the ground to hold my tape and then draw it on graph paper.

No Disto here - I have a fluid pencil on that grpah paper with notes - far more flexible than any electronic device ...

How much time can Disto save ?

Am I missing something?

"snb0125"?? Is that your real name?? Thought we had to use REAL names on this forum??

Aim and shoot very easy
Once you start you will use the tape less and less.
I do alot of condo interiors where it is best but if the house is a simple box no time savings. The big savings are on on a complicated house with lots of ins and outs. Also when the second and third floor is offset from the first. Drawbacks, somtimes it is hard to see the laser dot in the sunlight and sometimes you have to set up a target point if there is not one available. After the digital camera this is the best technology available for an appraiser. The only problem is explaining to my wife why I need a $500 tape measure and she can,t have a $500 purse.

Even on a simple box it sames a bunch of time and mess. Ranch with a full basement, go to corner of basement, shoot one way, record dimension. Standing in same ( dry, heated and cozy) spot shoot other direction, record dimension. Add for wall thickness. It took longer to type this than measure. Anyone doing any volume in condos this is a godsend. No dirty tape, looking for a spot to hook on, oops watch for the valuble knick knacks etc. The tape stays in the trunk except for very rare cases.

One of my employees said he was getting concerned about all the toys he was being expected to take care of and manage. I think he is right.

I would like to have a slate type tablet with a camera and laser software built into the computer. Then the appraiser only has one thing to carry.

Logitech does built a clip on camera, but the laser measure is not something I have found, yet. Matt Smith says Disto is coming out with that in the coming months. Will see how that goes.

I, definitely, am looking forward to getting the employees into mobile appraising.

Matt Johnson maybe?

Laser measuring devices? C'mon ..... this is appraising ... not Star Trek ..

If the Lord has made anything better than a Disto ... He, likely, has kept it for himself .... ;)

Near as I can figure ... based on about the number of appraisal observation I complete annually, it will save me about 2 weeks a year or about 20 minutes per appointment .... $500???

Talk to Matt .... :)
