I'm curious if there is any commercial appraiser/brokers on this forum? We were discussing the possibility of selling and appraising at our office and I was wondering the logistics of it. I know there are many residential appraisers that are also realtors.

I am a commercial broker but do residential appraisals - but I separate the two - If you are going to sell commercial and appraise commercial I would just make sure you keep the two separated and don't complete appraisals on anything you or your agents are involved with ( listing or sale ) I have a friend who is a appraiser-broker and lawyer. Just make sure everyone knows which hat you are wearing and what the scope of work is and you will be fine- You also may want to consider have two separate company names LLC or corporations - Appraisal Service & BBC -Brokerage etc. You can also get package E & O policy's that cover both your brokerage and appraisal services.

Were you assigned under another broker when starting out? How long did it take to get the business moving?

I'm a licensed broker and Certified Residential Appraiser......but I make more money in my current job as the Greeter at the Walmart in Marina.
