Map reference gets Town and Range (i.e. Township) ex. R29N R4W

Census tract get three numbers: state code, county code and the census tract number from the census bureau. ex. 26-039-9603

With these simple numbers, the county listed above, the zip code, the house address, the map and the legal descriiption, just about anybody could figure out where the subject property were located. MAYBE.

Blue 1:

Street Atlas, DeLorme, specifically address use by real estate agents and Appraisers in the small print. It allows for 10,000 maps to be reproduced without additional fees.

That is if they purchased the software in the first place.

Richard and Mike have it right, the map reference number refers to the state and county code portion of the census tract number, then the tract number is filled in in the census tract number area.

Reason? these numbers are used to track red-lining and other types of discrimination.

How do I know this, take a class from a knowledgable instructor on fair housing laws!

Just another example of us doing someone elses work for them.

Thank You Frank A., that is what I said last week, last month, six months, last year, 5 years ago, 10 years ago. Nice to know I am not the only one whistling in the dark for the past 15 years!

With all the posts that that have written on this thread for the past couple of weeks I have just one question.

If there is a right and a wrong entry for the Map Reference field on the forms why are Fannie and Freddie totally silent on the matter???

If anyone can find any Fannie or Freddie instructions for the field - anywhere - please guide me to it.

I believe FNMA once designated the map blank as a field for use of the appraiser as they saw fit. There is no right way or wrong way to file it out.
