3 bedroom house ....

bedroom closets are 5 feet long by 2 feet wide ....

no market data .... to support adjustment ....

.... incurable functional ?

.... or inferior appeal ?

..... would you make an adjustment?

What size house?
In most of my "starter" homes, this is not much smaller than standard. They're usually 2 x 6' if they've got sliding doors.
Would be OK in a smaller kid's bedroom, I suppose.

To answer your question, it depends. :)

But you knew that was coming, didn't you?

If you can hang a hanger and place shoes in it, I would call it a closet. I've seen smaller closets where the clothes hang back to front rather than side to side.

If there is no market date to support an adjustment, how are you going to make an adjustment?
Most closets are 2'4" deep by >4' long.

Most closets are 2'4" deep by >4' long. That wouldn't hold my wives shoes. (with racks to the ceiling.)

If you can hang your clothes in it and store stuff away, sounds like a closet to me. I'm not in your market but, for the most part, I would say a closet is a closet. I doubt that buyers are going to every house they look at, measuring the closet, then making an offer based on whether this house had a 2x5 closet opposed to a 2x6 closet. I don't think it's that specific. You either have closets or you don't. My opinion anyway.

Never seen a minimum requirement size for a closet.

Closets are not a requirement but an amenity.

If the market demands closets, hit it for functional. If not, use your best guess.

Did a house yesterday where one closet was less than 2 ft by 2 ft. Guess they did not have many clothes to hang up back in 1885.
