Help! my Disto died, actually it seems to be in a coma. I guess it's time to buy a new one but I am not sure which model to buy. I use my disto for both indoor and outdoor measurements. I do not use any of the features other than basic measurement. I want to buy the least expensive but the Leica description of the A2 says that it is for interior measurements. Does anyone use thw A2 for exterior measurements? Is the A3 worth the extre $100?

Condolences to you and the family:rof:

I'd contact Matt Johnson and see if they have any deals. The A-3 usually sells for around 229 bucks. Fits in your shirt pocket, easy to use. It has the add-subtract function, but not the Py feature. But I never used that when I had the old big-as-a-brick Disto.

I love my Stanley Fat Max Leica -- $100 at Home Depot.

My only complaint is that it's hard to find the laser dot in bright sunlight outdoors -- does the A3 compensate for that, or do I need the red laser glasses?

Which is the smallest/cheapest one with a scope?

I bought the Stanley FatMax after I LOST my bulky old Disto. I like the size but I have not figured out how to "lock a measurement" on the screen after "shooting" a dimension. On the Disto, once you pressed the button the measurement stayed on the screen for "X" time period. Too many situations where I cannot see the screen on the Fatmax; i.e., holding it high on a wall to clear top of windows, etc. When I move it, I lose the reading. Directions are worthless. Is there a way of "locking in a measurement? ron patton, chattanooga, tn; rlpatton@comcast.net

All this technology appears to be problematic. Might I suggest a Wheel and/or a Tape?
