From my research and speaking with my local NAR organization, MTAR, I do not plan on paying dues this year. I spoke with my MLS system and they no longer require membership into any organization in order to use the MLS. My monthly bill will increase $15 because of it, but I will be saving $400 a year.

Thoughts on if this is a sensible thing to do?

Over here, to use the MLS, one has to pay the exorbitant mandatory NAR and CAR fees. At least they support Realtors.

Absolutely smart thing to do. No sense in giving the NAR cartel any more money than they already have. The realtor association thing is a joke and serves basically no purpose anymore. It’s like being forced to join a union in order to work.

One does not need to belong to NAR to use MLS in my area, but I do have a RE license. I moved it to a brokerage that does not require NAR membership. After years, I saw no value in paying NAR dues. Paying dues does not make one ethical.
