What's everyone so uptight about? It's a business decision, just like comp checks.:rof::rof:

Keep up the we don't need no stink'n certification all you want. After all, it is your business that hangs in the balance; however, you sound like a motorcyclist yelling he has the right of way to a semi driver. Being right does not mean you will come out on top.

Just curious, how many certified appraisers would be able to qualify for certification today, under the 2008 standards, including the two year college degree? That's great if all of you do, but if you don't, maybe you shouldn't be offering advice on how easy it is to upgrade (just a few more hours).

I would. I have had an Associates Degree in Real Estate since January 1979. I have also taught all the required courses many, many times so i would not fear taking the current exam.

But, just out of curiosity, why would you expect one who is certified to have to retake the exam? They do not require that of any other profession.

Don,

I have a college degree and I am not afraid of taking the new exam either. I will say, however, if there is a legitimate reason that a new and tougher exam is needed ( and most agree that the old exam was too easy and allowed too many incompetent appraisers into our profession), then it would make sense to make eveyone in the profession have to take the new test and pass it within a certain time frame in order to maintain their licenase/certification. Why should incompetent people be allowed to be in the profession just because they were able to take an easier exam some years ago?...grandfathering in incompetence makes no sense at all.

Well Steve .. that was his language not mine ... and frankly I would guess that there are many many licensed appraisers that could have gotten certified well before the new rules changes but they simply didnt.

I even asked if I could take the new exam and was told I couldnt, I am already certified. So I tried and I do meet the education requirements .. for those that dont ... there is college equivalency in the rules. Anyone can do it.

Everyone should.

I have been "offering advice" to get certified ASAP since 2004. Yes, it is tougher now and it won't get any easier, but it will become more necessary. Those appraisers who had the needed experience and failed to become certified prior to 1/1/2008 made a foolish decision IMHO.

As for meeting the 2008 criteria, I have a degree and took the additional appraiser education. Not because it was required, but because I truly believe my signature line.

We should all continually strive to continue our education and credentials and be the best at what we do.

To me that is one of the great attractions to this business, it is a never ending learning process.

From what I hear if you are already on the FHA list then you won't be removed unless of course you screw up an appraisal. Also the wording certified was meant to mean licensed/certified. I am new to posting on this forum, but I had some free time today and I have read a lot of posts. All I can say is some people on this site have real disdain and built up hate. They wish bad things on others and like to tout themselves. I personally believe in karma and I never wish bad things on others. I am as you people put it "just licensed" as of now, but I am in the process of becoming certified, but no matter what I would never be a jerk and have fun at the expense of other people's misery. I hope everyone can do FHA appraisals and everyone can be as successful as possible. Also how many posts can some of you people make. Maybe if you spent less time on this site posting (thousands of posts really) and more time working/finding new business then you wouldn't be so pessimistic about the industry. And maybe you would have less time to hate on your peers. Licensed appriaser or certified appraiser we all in the same business and have the same goal. Remeber karma can come back to get you. Hopefully for some of you people's sake karma is kind. Or may be it hasn't been kind already and that is why you have no work and so much time to spend all day posting meaningless posts. If I posted as much you people my business would be under and I would be on the streets. I can picture some of you now on the edge of your seats waiting for the next post hoping it will merit what you just posted so you can look cool in front of your friends. Or praying the bill says licensed appraisers can't do FHA appraisals so you will be right and they will be wrong. Man that's all elementary, Remember GOD loves you and kindness cures all-- try it.

From what I hear nobody has a clue how FHA will handle it.
The official response:

We are currently working with our attorneys to interpret this provision and therefore do not have a definitive answer at this time as to whether or not licensed appraisers will continue to qualify for the Roster. FHA guidance will be issued in the near future.
It is amazing that someone would interpret advice to become certified as hateful. That is like saying your dentist is being hateful for telling you to floss. :rof:
