I've been a member of the Appraisal Institute since 1995 and have recently been invited to participate in the Governor's Quality/Fraud Council.

Hi Chris, and welcome!!

My time is spent in Pinellas County, exclusively. Wide variety of residential work.

When you get a chance, tell us about the Governor's Quality/Fraud Council.

Hey, Chris. Nice to know you're still alive and kickin'. Been wondering where you went.
I thought you knew where I went. I'm still around :D . I didn't see you at the quarterly meeting in Boca a couple of weeks ago. I've already got my 3 hours of the new Florida law CE course.

Florida Quality Council meeting is this Friday at the Orlando Airport Hawthorn Suites. I'll let ya know how that goes.

So ya keeping busy? Have you seen my web site?

For those of the rest of you reading this, John took me under his wing when I first came to Florida from Maryland.

It started out in 2000 as the Governor's Fraud Council. It's now called the Florida Quality Council. There are various members from lenders, appraisers, the FBI and users of reports that investigate the quality of appraisals and fraud in lending and appraisals. The meetings are open to public for $45.00 which includes a business meeting, lunch and various discussions. The next meeting is this Friday at the Orlando Airport Hawthorn Suites. The agenda includes "Changes in Florida Law & USPAP","Debtor Discovery", "FannieMae - New Issues and Fraud Trends". This will be my first meeting in attendance. I'll let y'all know how it goes.

Welcome back Chris!

I'm really looking forward to hearing more about the Florida Quality Council meeting and wish I could attend! Maybe next time.

Hey Jeff..... This might be just what is needed!

Chris,

Please tell us what happened at the Florida Quality Council meeting. I'm anxious to hear about it and if this could be something that can/will help all of us.

Well, it was just my first time there. I had been invited to assist a colleque present the new proposed changes to USPAP and the Law. The Council consists (currently) of about 40 active participants. It meets every other month (a week after the FREAB). Most of the participants are end users and lenders, Debbie Brown from FannieMae also participates. I was only able to stay for the morning session and had to miss Debbie's discussion. The lenders, including WAMU, Riverside Bank, Republic Bank, BOA, SouthTrust and AmSouth all were very interested in the new changes being proposed for Florida. They were very interested in knowing about the TRAINEE changes. They were very supportive of the 4-6 Trainees per supervisor and the county limitations (restrictions). The number one question was "who determines competency of the Trainee?" That seems to be the #1 question whenever this topic gets discussed. It's that little grey area that I don't think even the FEAB has been able to figure out.

Anyway, I've been invited back and I'm sure as the changes in Florida take hold there will be some very lively discussions. Input and participation from appraisers is always welcome. I'll let you know when and where the next meeting is as the time gets closer.
