Is there a screen to see further distances?

why did you decide to switch to a different brand?

You said "no frills" :-D

It doesn't do much other than point and shoot. The green dot is 100 times easier to see than the red dot for me.

If you want to see it 165 feet away while outside, though, I suspect you will need some green Devo glasses...

I purchased yesterday and just received it from Amazon. Seems easy enough. Thanks for the recommendation.

I've never used a laser device. How do you measure the flat front of a house? Can you just stand in front of the house and point at two targets and get the distance between the two?

You have to have something to bounce the dot off of. I usually carry both a laser and a tape - unless my wife is with me, then I use her as a guinea pig...

If the device has indirect capabilities.

Hit a rain gutter, barbecue, window sill, then walk up to that point and push "+" on the laser measurer and add another section. Conversely, you shoot past the house hitting the fence for example, then subtract the distance between the fence and the house. Sometimes, I lean my clipboard up at the end of the wall and shoot the whole distance. This takes walking back and forth though.

I also carry a roller measure tool with me for those times where the laser won't work, like around hedges and bushes.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'm gonna dive in. I measured a fairly rectangular house yesterday but every corner had either gutters or bushes with no way to hook a tape to it.

People and their rose bushes...

You can shoot off an object that's located further away (like a parked car or a fence or a trash can or whatnot) and then re-measure when you get to the far side of the wall you're measuring. The difference in distances will be the length of your wall.

The device one of the posters mentioned with the green laser sounds enticing. The red laser dot is really hard to see in the bright Sun.

I have an old dog, PLS laser measurer which has a bubble level and a little sitescope on it to find the Red Dot....I remember picking it up over a decade ago because Disto's were so expensive.

Dive in! Laser measurers are fun to use!PLS1.jpg
