""I'm Joe Billionaire," he said. "I made widgets. I sold those widgets. I made billions of dollars, you know, selling those widgets, making those widgets. Therefore, those billions of dollars are mine."

Sounds as if she's channeling some appraisers' views about AMCs.... :peace:

Sounds like, how do you become King then. By exploiting the working class, hanging on to outdated Imperialist dogma...
Now if they can just hire the Lady of the Lake. :leeann2:

Actually makes a lot of sense in her worldview. Consistent with the actions of her peers too. Why go thru all the trouble to research, develop, market and manufacture an entire product that people desire and will pay for? So much work. There's people who have done all that work and even made the money already...just take it from them and skip all that hard stuff.

Isn't that exactly how some appraisers sound about AMCs?

That incredibly ugly world view that cares for others?

Or possibly pay folks for not growing crops or for growing crops that can't be sold? Sounds highly Socialistic, don't it?

AMCs have created a product that has a place in the market and companies are willing to engage their service. It is capitalism. Personally I think their business model is based on lies and deceit but my opinion doesn't matter as the market has spoken.

For AOCs ignorant comments she wants things to be "fair" and for people to get more than the market is willing to pay for their labor. Those people who become millionaires have most likely created something that is desirable in the market and most of the time taken great risk to get to where they are or where they are going. To get where they want to get they need workers to make those widgets. If the workers feel like the future billionaire is screwing them they are free to leave and go work for a different widget maker.

The same goes for the appraiser. There is a market for the AMC product and the AMCs need appraisers to make that product. If the appraiser thinks they are getting screwed by the AMC business model they are free to find other alternatives.

Everyone loves kittens. You'd have to be a monster to not love kittens, or to close your door in the face of a kitten in need.

OTOH, everyone knows better than to take in every kitten we might run across That's why only the freaks do that.

Leave it a bunch of old, white men to take such a small view of this.

Why give her such grief for representing the views of her constituents?

Wealth inequality is a thing. Too much money tied up into to few hands is not good for the economy or our society.

This is such a tricky, yet meaningful, discussion. At my core, I am a capitalist and libertarian, yet I, too, believe that folks can own/control too much of an economy's factors of production (in this example, capital). The rub for me is: (1) how do we (whomever we is) determine what is too much, (b) how do you justify a government 'stealing' from one to give to another, and (3) how do you equitably distribute that excess capital in a manner that enrichens the economy? The questions are rhetorical, but are a glimpse into my admittedly small mind.

If police, fire, emergency services, schools, and other beneficial or necessary programs cost me .02% of my income in taxes then that might be $500 a year (don't send me any emails, it's just an example). If it's .02% for someone making $100M a year then that's $2M. Same impact, better living conditions. Healthy, happy, calm people are better for business than unhealthy, unhappy, miserable people.
