No one wants to work

Update: Got a call today and they said the door didn't come in as expected, (I imagine someone F-up) so get to wait some new un-determinable future time. I noted that a garage door from Home Depot typically is available in January. God, they are garage doors. If this is the stuff we farmed out to China, heaven help us.
My wife is part of a group that ordered a memorial bench (like normal ones in parks) LAST May. The city parks dept still has not received the bench, and the manufacturer cannot give them an exact date of when it will come.

This goes FAR beyond some COVID supply chain disruption. This country needs to wake up and realize how dependent we are on countries that hate us. Forget going green. We need to start going red white and blue...

They may not always pick who the Appraiser IS, but they certainly pick who the Appraiser IS NOT. Newbies that produce a terrible work product are moved to the top of the list because they do what they are told. We are just an obstacle to secondary market lenders.
And because they do it cheaper.

It's hard to argue against that.... but, all we can do is vote, write letters, make calls... maybe give a little $ to a candidates campaign fund. Unfortunately, I reckon that most people are too busy trying to pay the bills to be able to do much beyond voting.

For a long time, I've thought that the Lender's and AMC's complaints about an appraiser shortage were over hyped. My suspicion was that there was a shortage of appraisers willing to work really cheap and really fast. Now I'm starting to believe that they have a point about a shortage. Today, I got a call from a friend who works in a small AMC. They have been unable to find someone who was even willing to quote a fee for an appraisal at the beach. It's well outside my service area... but, I probably could have gotten any fee I asked for. As an old manager used to tell me (back when fees were $300 or so, if every appraiser charged $500 or more, then lenders would be paying $500 or more.

It's nonsense. They are trying to pay fees I used to get back around 2005. We are in 2022, with high inflation, and they want to pay 2005 fees.

When the AMCs and lenders start bickering with you over nuts and bolts - it is not because they are concerned with quality. They are just trying to put the appraiser down in hopes of getting less static over lower fees. Generally speaking, they just want a rubber stamp.

Anybody who has been an appraiser for any length of time should know this - unless they are stupid enough to let their clients pull the wool over their eyes on these issues.

Some AMCs are worse than others. Some of those guys are downright bastards, - in their personal behavior. I could name names.

But, it's rather hopeless, I suppose. You need to look around and find other work. There are indeed plenty of jobs out there that provide a decent steady income with benefits, such as a truck driver.

I do not accept any Lake Norman or Lake Wiley waterfront assignments. I don't care what they are paying. The reason is not obvious but important. Our two lakes Lake Norman and Lake Wiley water front properties the Water Depth at the SFR 's Dock at Low Pool is really and I mean really important. The upper ends near the river source of these two lakes during low pool everyone's boats are lying on their side in mud
Those are Catawba River. I live right off of Catawba river in Hickory. Why does low pool keep you from appraising them?

Yes your right it is the Catawba River system. So its not just about Low Pool(you would agree thats really important) its more about Total Time spent just going to and from that area because I live about five miles from I-85 in Gastonia right off Gaston Days School Rd. Depending where the subject is located It can take awhile just to get to the subject AND THEN the time it can take to just get Comp Photos and back home. Sure Condo's and Small to larger SFR attached and detached developments are relatively easy. Then there are the homes that have been on the lake a long time. So an Appraiser really needs to know that area very well. You live in Catawba County so it makes sense for you. Would you Drive all the way to Lake Wiley? Probably not. For me It's really about Fee and time.

Most garage doors are made in the USA, however, much of the hardware used to construct them are not made here. And there is a tariff issue.

Its everything along the supply chain. From the shut downs in China to the container ship dock problems to getting those containers to their destination. I heard that pre pandemic we had supply chain issues and when COVID hit, it all came into the fore front.
