Just opened the mail from the DLEG.

I am upgrading from limited to state.

As written:

"Per the 2008 AQB requirements, any courses taken and used to obtain past licensure cannot be applied toward an upgrade license. Consequently, the courses you completed to obtain your Limited Appraiser license are not applicable to your State Licensed Appraiser application"

Therefore, I have only been credited 75 hours of education and cannot use the 75 hours that I obtained for my limited towards my State Lic.

This is news to my mentor, my instructor, etc.

Please advise!!!

Get the 180 required hours of education. You will be a better appraiser because of it.

Here is a link to the state of Michigan web site for appraisers.

http://www.michigan.gov/dleg/0,1607,7-154-35299_35414_35474---,00.html

I'm sure it is detailed there.

This does surprise me, too, though.

Here is where they detail education requirements under 2008 ASB requirements:

http://www.michigan.gov/documents/dleg/web_2008_AQB_01162008_223305_7.doc

I think someone is misinterpreting the rules. See the table on page two - so they are saying you have to take the 75 hours of classes again? Doesn't sound right.

Thanks Mary, I have/had researched that info prior to this post. BUT just wanted to make sure I wasn't reading it incorrectly. I have a phone call into Felicia Badger, Assistant Licensing Administrator -- at the time of this post I have not had a return phone call.

Tim - It is without doubt that I would be better educated with the 180 hours, but the question here -- will they count towards my necessary credentials to fulfill even taking the State Level Exam??

Someone at the DLEG, in my opinion, is misinterpreting the new classifications for 2008.

I don't know about Michigan, but in California, the board has been very vocal about having to retake your education to meet the new requirements - the new modules are different from the old classes. Anyone who didn't meet the end of 2007 deadlines would have to meet the new education requirements. That's probably universal, although it could have been better explained.

AQB may hold the answer

Friendbrook,

I think where you are getting snagged is that all applications submitted after 1-1-08 must meet ALL AQB requirements, and if the courses you initially took in past years were not AQB certified, they will not be counted. I'm not stating this for a fact, just recollection from all the classes I was taking the last 6 months on 07 so I could get my application in prior to Jan.1. The instructors drilled into everyone there, the importance of getting done prior to 08.

Please keep us posted on what you here from Felica (the buck stops there).

Good Luck

Belding's a nice little place. I was camping in a tent along the Flat River at RR ranch, in Smyrna several years ago when that tornado went through. Had to go to Belding to find electricity.:(

heh-I'm 3 mins from the Double R Ranch -- fun 'lil place.. and yes I remember that storm!

I do hold a valid Limited Lic. and I have taken the additional 75 hours as listed above -

In my opinion I have met the requirements.
