Old timber barn and appraisal

They are taking the whole thing down, taking what they want and leaving a pile of what they don't want. I am fine with this, ( burns quick and hot for summer campfires ) as no contractor would do this in this area. I planned on doing this demolish myself, but with a daughter graduating and getting married in the same year :) I don't have time to demolish and rebuild. The siding, my wife only wants to make a outhouse out of it, whatever. What ever is left over I will figure out from there, sell, store and reuse later, I don't know.

I am cringing because I love real wood in an otherwise plastic world. Before you burn it, enter reclaimed Cyprus into your search bar and view the pictures of the many possibilities.

Thanks again!

reclaimed cypress
or you'd get a whole other set of results ;-)

You must excuse some people on this forum for their rudeness, if at all possible.

They are not all like this.

Some actually have class.

You should get a life Hurlock. It would do you good.

1. That wood could be worth a bundle. I just finished appraising a company's assets that works with reclaimed lumber. Old barns, old trees, etc. it can be worth a lot.
2. Get that wood off the ground before it really rots &/or gets bugs.
3. If you are going to stack the wood for an extended period of time, have an exterminator treat it to prevent future bug infestation.

Invite some friends over for hamburgers, beer, and a wood recovery party. They will be able to dig through the downed barn and stack all of the good wood. Burn any that is bug infested. Will make a nice bonfire for your party. :)

Jon Lightboy,

If you are still around, nope, college not necessary. Practical resolution is.
Bank folks appear to be some sort of narrow minded stickler on actual replacement. What I think is more acceptable solution as also noted by others in this thread is replacement with a structure practical to your site and use. Clearly stock and hay barn is not it.
How about using the $21,000 to pay the Amish to reuse some, most or all of the barn materials and build say a 900 -1,600sf shop/storage building? Modern wiring, water, concrete floor, fire proofing, etc. Something practical for yourself or any future buyer on a 1.37 acre site? Unless you do have livestock why a pole barn, do others in neighborhood have pole (or other material) barns for livestock?

Bonus to bank -- recycled new structure actually adds some value to property and therefore makes the LTV even lower. Lemons to lemonade. . .

The omish are here today, barn is down, just a bit of leftovers to burn, didn't cost me a dime. Yes my wife is in 4H and we have rabbits, chickens, a horse, soon to be pigs and maybe turkeys. My 4 four wheelers and john deere mower was in the barn, which in now in the garage and ticks my wife off that she can't park in there, and yes my neigbor and others have pole barns. And actually, I have more property than the bank knows about because of there screw up years ago, ( THE BANK ) they probably went to appraiser school, so there is enough room to rebuild what I want.

Just because you can't grasp the basics of real estate appraisal doesn't mean you can say snippy things like this.

You started this topic in a section for professionals and I'm surprised the moderators didn't move it to the forum for non-appraisers to ask their simple-simon questions in an environment that gets heavily moderated and we have to respond in a more dumbed down manner.

Good luck with your property.

*Waiting for Hurlock to apologize on my behalf.
