...Maybe we just issue hunting licenses for anyone without a home that qualifies to our standards. Question then, is what time of the year would be appropriate to start the season.
IMHO, the open season for Pols, ought to be year 'round. Narcissistic Meddlers would be an adequate shorthand for the group.

I keep reading that the majority of the homeless have mental illness, or are addicts. Can't verify.
However, I once worked in a "methadone maintenence" clinic; One guy on staff specialized in getting our addicts jobs. He was very successful, and so were the patients. Draw you own conclusions on addicts. As for people with mental illness, once we had hospitals that specialized in their care.
Those hospitals are gone, ACLU lawsuits were the base cause, IIRC. The law of unintended consequences is alive and well.
...and will be active, working on this legislation. Keep a good supply of popcorn.

The "inner" cities are usually called that due to their proximity to employment centers. Whatever large scale redevelopment trends we want to run should be established in the logical and orderly basis, starting from the inside and working outwards. Even in an urban neighborhood or district, the properties fronting the primary and secondary arterioles are the logical place to start because that's where the transit lines operate. Don't rezone the transition and interior zones of these blocks until the developer activity on the main street surpasses a certain percentage, like say 60% or so. Then expand outward in the logical and orderly manner so the residents of the new units can stay within walking distance to transportation. Then once those areas are built up it will become feasible to extend new bus or light rail lines 1/4 mile away where the process can start all over.

Expanding densities on the wholesale basis regardless of geography is foolish due to being just another form of unmanaged sprawl. The increase in supply will disincentivize focusing on the interior areas and on any economically feasible expansions of mass transit.

IMO

"The Oregon measure also responds to criticisms from the state's recent rent control law, which broadens tenant protections and limits the amount landlords can increase rent per year. Economists have warned that the state needs to focus on housing supply, and that rent control could dissuade developers--making the housing crisis worse.

Many people move to the state from California."

Government solutions like rent control and mandates that new development sell a percentage of homes at prices that are below market have a retarding effect on new development.

Looks like people are moving out of California. Wonder why? :)

"CAN" - Get off your high horse . We grew up in the same small College Town , you and I never suffered one day being hungry, and we both had a roofs over our heads. There was no discrimination, because you and I were White Guys and when a police officer stopped us , we said yes-sir-no sir . I quit hunting 35 years ago because unless I can say I need to kill something for food, there is no reason, to kill it. So my question is what do you mean by "as opposed to living in Claremont ?

"CAN" we grew up in a good City, even today the Claremont Professors and students, talk about Social Justice , and yada, yada, yada , and they look down and disdain the working class . The truth is none of them have ever gotten their hands dirty, the-professors cannot be fired and the parents of the 7-C Campus supply all their financial needs at $75,000 to $100,000 a year . You served in the Navy ( AND WE THANK YOU FOR THAT ) I will say this , Mao Zedong, took the professors and the elites and sent them into work camps, after picking taters for a year or two they either got off their high horse or they went to level two. You want to be a social justice warrior ? the problem is you are privileged and we both had the opportunity of growing up in this great country, unfortunately we chose a profession that is not what it was 15-25 years ago.
