Outlook Express Help!

If you have “Outlook” try setting it up as you primary email client. See if you can access you mail that way.

THANK GOD! It's not just me having trouble with Outlook!
I wonder what's going on?!

Jo Ann,
Try this link. It's the only way I've been able to access my e-mail for almost 2 weeks.

http://www.web2mail.com

Haven't had the patience to figure out what the deal is, I've tried everything I know of, asked a gazillion people and finally gave up until I can regain the patience to find a solution.

I have used the web mail address for several years. Use to use it very frequently when I was on dial up, I would receive files too big for the dial up so had to go to web mail, open them up or delete them if they were junk. If I accidentally used a wrong address to send a report to a client, it would be returned to me and be too large for my isp to handle in dial up. My problem was that Outlook Express had already retrieved those 22 messages and they were no longer available through web mail because my ISP doesn't store messages. My isp is a local one through the Duncan Valley Electric CoOp. They are the only ones with a tower close enough to be usable. The way my house is constructed, cable is not an option, it would have to come through the roof (which I don't want) because the walls are solid adobe. My TV cable was installed when we replaced the roof six years ago and we didn't have a roof for several days. We only have a 3/12 pitch and now that is totally filled with heating ducts and cold air return. So now more cable can be installed until the next time we take the roof of the house.

Any way I am finally back in business. Outlook Express is still dead. Several months ago I had installed Netscape, so was able to email all I want through that. Finally yesterday morning figured out how to import those 22 messages and everything else in Outlook into Netscape. Took quite awhile to figure out what all needed to be done. Finally had to go to Start, Accessories, System Tools, restore system to a date in February. Didn't realize until yesterday that was how the computer would be restored to a different date. Shut computer off, turned it completely back on--Outlook Express still frozen. But when I went to Netscape, there were about four copies of everything from Outlook Express because I kept trying to transfer the files and I didn't think it was working. Including the 800 email addresses of Arizona appraisers that I use to sent out meeting and seminar notices and my 22 messages! Which turned out to include some very important emails including an order from a client. So now I will be a Netscape user until someday when Outlook Express works again.

Several months ago when I downloaded Netscape, I had also downloaded Mozilla, but Appraisal Port and other lenders websites do not recognize Mozilla so I have to use Internet Explorer to access those sites. But Mozilla is still there in the background as another email backup.

Jo Ann,

Thanks about the info on Mozilla. I had begun to research this an an alternative to Outlook but if sites like Appraisalport do not recognize it, then it is a waste of time.

I also have Cox and am receiving dozens of "deleted by Cox- virus forward"... the funnel also clogs at the COX end of things... if I get no incoming I have to go to the Cox Web-mail site and delete any suspicious 'incoming' to release the logjam.

Outlook has been twitchy since installation of a spyware program, a few days ago but it had never frozen up internally before... <_<

Anyone know how to double check for open ports? I remember a site Wayne reccommended but can't find it now.

My problem is that outgoing mail will sometimes jam (turning hourglass) until I shut down Outlook using cntrl-alt-delete. I find it stabilizes somewhat after a full reboot. but what a PITA!~

Happening about two three times a day now :(

:eyecrazy:

SOS: Thank you.

It appears that I am either closed or in stealth mode on the few and 'normal' open ports.

I suppose I am not contributing to web-disharmony.
But I sure hate what it is doing to ME. :(

well as far as I know it could be a virus thing but I will throw that out "you should have a antivirus that is up to date and checking all incoming email"

Outllok is a funny thing first thing is if you use the preview pane you should turn it off it automaticly launches all emails you click on and bad content sent to you will work with out anything stopping it.

Do you leave your emails open or do you close them I have seen prople with 150+ emails open at a time. that could cause your pc to messup it's out of memory perhaps.

How many emails do you have seved in your "in box" move some to another folder create folders for people /clients or years and move some of them every time you open your outlook email it goes to the in box by defualt and if there are lots of emails stored the file can mess up.
Outllok stores every mailbox in a single file on your hard derive. they can get quite large with attachemnts.

there are other options but I found these to be the most common..
hope this helps.

Where does Outlook Express file the in messages on my hard drive? I can't Outlook Express to make any changes there. Through a program I found on the internet called Backup Outlook Express I have every thing saved to that file. But I can't open any of those files--they end in .dbx. And now that I have transferred all the information from Outlook Express to Netscape--I think I could erase all my messages in Outlook Express (provided I could still access them in Netscape). Although if I could figure out how to save the message in Outlook Express to a diskette or zip drive or CD, then I could erase all messages in Outlook Express.

I did the Shields test and I have 3 ports open, 10 ports stealth. What does that tell me--is that good or bad? And what can I do about it?

Jo Ann,

To check your firewall status, ports open, etc.

Go to Settings, Network Connection, then Properties, Advanced, then in the lower right corner of that window you will see Settings again, click that;
You should see a list of items with checkboxes beside them, if you want total firewall protection, they should all be blank, no checkmarks. Then in the same window at the top you will see a button ICMP, click that and the same with the checkmarks. All blank.

You can run the Shields test again to see if you are protected.

What those checkboxes are, is you giving permeission for other entities to get into your computer. To my knowledge unless you are on a closed network you should not leave any of these open.

Next, have you installed the latest upgrade to Outlook express?

You can find that here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/results...&DisplayLang=en

While you are at Microsoft.com, find the Windows XP security updates and see if you are up to snuff on your security.

I hope this helps.

Terry
