Pegged my Windows 10 PC this afternoon

I don't why not, checks out. It's an EVGA P2 1200 watter.
My 8-year-old power supply went tango uniform. Hope you have better luck with yours, and I hope it doesn't take out your new motherboard when it fails. "False economy" I would say. Probably a "power fluctuation" instead of malware that caused you all this trouble.

Ok, ok, now you freaked me out.

All fixed. For some reason, after repeated attempts, she booted into safe mode, and I got the chance to repair the system. Yay.

Which brand of malware did you discover? Did it demand that you purchase "Trump Memorabilia" to unlock your system?

It was called the PC App Store, a neon flashing window right in the middle of your screen, unmovable and unremovable. A real pain in the butt, but I didn't fall for it, purchasing McAfee software with a gun to my forehead. It also motivated me to research the new build I need to do, and I cleaned the heck out of the computer's inners, fan screens, and whatnot.

I haven't had one since the late 80s back in the DOS days. A Big Green Cross in the middle of the screen that said "Disk Killer - turn me off if you dare". I dared, and it wiped out my file allocation table. I traced it back to a virus scanning program I downloaded off one of the military bulletin boards back then.

That is precisely it: gaudy flashing graphics, like a carnival funhouse. God help you if you give these Romanian beamers your credit card number.
