Please Help-1.5ac parcel with home -house is assessed storage building

Sounds like the assessor needs to be replaced.

Or at least take the time to go LOOK at the property.

Assessor: "How do you want your house assessed?"

Owner: "As a storage building."

Assessor: "OK".

When researching the property I find that the assessor has assessed the home as a storage building, I talk with the assessor and he states that the owner has had the water turned off to the house and is not using it as a home therefore, has requested to have the home assessed as a storage building, the assessor complied.

Keep in mind that assessor's determine the value of a property for taxation purposes, and in many jurisdictions will tax a property based on its use, whether the use is legal or illegal. I simply wouldn't waste my time speaking to the assessor on this matter. This is a matter that should be discussed with the planning department (or equivalent). If there is an attorney involved, this matter should be discussed with him/her.
