The only times I get hired as an expert witness is when I'm an expert witness on the topic
Yep, testimony is not the place for amateur hour regardless those 'designations" - It is why I got so amused once when an MAI was testifying on the value of mineral rights when he couldn't even say if they were real property rights or an intangible business interest.

Yeah, no initials on their own demonstrate expertise! As a fellow mineral valuation practitioner and MAI, this is not an unfamiliar anecdote! My mineral extraction experience is in rocke, aggregate, sand and gravel, crushed stone, marble, granite, schist, slate, talc, and wollastonite. But I do know mineral right aren't intangible!
