Looks minimum to me so Q6, and condition is new or nearly so? C2 . I don't think you can conflate C & Q but it is easy to let condition color your perception of quality. Most cabins might fit the Q6 ratings. Some shanty hunting cabin built by amateur labor sans inspection or permits might be a Q6 with condition issues but I don't see them as being candidate for secondary market appraisals.

No, but definitely will knock condition down a couple notches...

I think part of the confusion is that quality does not change--condition does. It is relative to the TIME period during which the house was built. I sometimes appraise very old houses, and their quality of construction beats anything I see in modern building techniques. The ornate carvings on just the staircases alone blows me away. The rough cut boards are so much better than Lowes' 2x4's. The hardwood floors are such nice quality many spend much more to refinish them than it would cost to replace them.

But alas, many of these I do are CONDITION 5 or even 6. But the quality has not changed in the intervening 100 years.

One way I have looked at quality in the past is how long would I expect the improvements to last with only minimal maintenance? I know cost has been mentioned by several early in this thread as relating to quality, but I think longevity of the components could be perhaps a better way to view it. Other than aesthetics, what is the difference in cost between various roof coverings? Expected life. For instance, copper roofs cost a lot, but one good hailstorm and it could be toast. So cost does not necessarily equal long life here, and if one has to replace a roof every 10 years, is it right to say it is high quality?

Someone mentioned a hunting cabin built by the hunters. How long will that likely last?
