Dennis Basil, MAI, Certified General, was one of the first members of the board. After his term expired, he wanted to remain, so he became a certified residential and was re-appointed as a board member! I saw him last night. He is out of appraising and is selling commercial real estate. Smart move!
Dennis was on the FREAB when I was first appointed. He was (and is) a smart guy. He mentored me, and filled me in on how to get things done. I have not seen him in a while, but trade comments with him on facebook once in a while.
Dennis started off as my fathers assistant back in the 1970's. Litteraly holding the dumb end of the tape. I started working with my father in the early '80's, just as Dennis went out on his own. He is a great guy, and has some fun stories to tell about the board. In fact he told me some good ones last night.
One funny story that I'm certain he did not share back then, but when licensing came out, he got the license format, as in St.Cert.Gen REA RZ398 (thats me), incorrect in his yellow pages ad and on his business card. As a member of the board who would be overseeing things like that, that is funny! I am willing to bet that no one in his tenure was brought before the board, solely for that type of infraction!
