Retaining wall railing?

if you are this nervous, you can compromise. ask for a simple handrail. you don't necessarily have to have a lot of posts, just kinda of a stop point. if this issue was that civic important, would not the local authorities have a code violation on every door in the neighborhood already?

Dude, this is like the third thread I've read where you've fallen. You might want to have that checked out. You have some sort of equilibrium issue going on....
Make it the fourth. Today I was picking plums from my rear yard. I was stretching to pluck this juicy plum and before I knew it I was falling down flat on my face.
It just so happened there was a vine bush that cushioned my fall. While falling I was scared there would be some branch stick that could have hurt me. Got lucky this time.

Op has VA on their side on subject to. They really don't need anybody else on their side on subject to. Home free. Fork everybody else so to speak. VA is the client.

End of story. Take your medicine. Pay me as soon as possible. Notice I charge late charges on my invoice.

You are dangerous rich man. Can you leave me in your will? Maybe some crazy personal item you owned.

This item I bought in ******. I leave to Zoe because he requested I leave him something. Sounds good.

Zoe, you seem to be a happy man with no need of material things.
At end of day, car is a car but nice to have a Tesla.

As long as it don't quit and gets me from point A to point B, I am good. Sam Walton (Walmart) used to drive an old pickup truck to his stores. LOL

Would require handrailing around basement window wells? Seems by definition a safety concern especially if there are small kids around.
I wish they would. I stepped into one that was filled to the top with snow while measuring a home.

Actually, they NOW require them (at least in this area) on new construction; railings or a horizontal grate at grade.

Am I the only one who gets confused when appraisers talk about requiring existing homes be compliant to building code?
Agree, except...

Aren’t existing structures grandfathered in? Are you applying all of the current version of the building code (IRC) to this 1940-50s ranch home, such as those for building materials, fire protection, interior finishes, etc.?

Codes have changed or were non-existent at the time of construction for many homes and doesn't FHA/VA require handrails for interior stairs and exterior stairs in excess of a certain number of steps? It's been 20 years since I've performed an FHA appraisal but I remember they had certain requirements that were non-negotiable.

I've recommended railings for retaining walls even on conventional loans. One step and you fall 6' or more from the lawn to the concrete driveway below that leads to a basement garage or to a walkout basement patio.
