Scaled Scoring on the new exam?

So if you are not on FHA List and you are only licensed, you will not be able to do FHA appraisals after the 1st of the Year? You have to be certified? Will it pointless to even be Licensed at that point?

Red, there are a few lengthy threads about this on the forum already...search the new posts option and you will likely find one or two.

Ok....the test consists of 165 questions; however, only 150 count. The extra 15 are used for potential future test questions.

I've also been wondering something: When I passed, my score was on the bottom of the page. I thought "Hmph! I didn't think they told you that...", so I'm keeping it a secret, but was that an error on the behalf of the proctor?

Here is even a better idea....Since our so called profession is overpopulated with incompetent idiots who were licensed/certified under ridiculously easy licensing/certification rules, all appraisers should be required to take and pass the new test before they are allowed to renew their license/certification. This would go a long way towards weeding out the numerous morons in our industry and would cause those who remain in the industry to increase their knowlege base and overall competence.

Here's another idea Tim. How about you and other self proclaimed competent appraisers that care about this profession stop trying to drive people away and try to help educate them instead. "They" aren't going to go away just because you want them to so if you are so concerned about this, maybe you should find a more constructive way to deal with it.

No - the 15 do not count in the score. And I think they're probably the easy ones, like "What is defined as the sum of a group of numbers divided the the quantity of numbers summed?" or "True or False : Tax Evasion is illegal".

I find it very frustrating I couldn't get my score!!!

That's how I felt the first time - I was so close with a 73, and I thought, "well if they'd graded those 15 questions maybe I wouldn't have to take another vacation day and pay another $120 to test again!"

But honestly, not passing the first time was the best "studying" I got - I was able to go back and focus on the areas that I'd struggled in on the test for the next time. Gave me a much better idea of what to expect.

I'm not sure if that's the case, one of my questions had to deal with a site, a water retention pond, volume of water and a drainage pipe - and whether or not it would be sufficient.

That's not something taught in ANY of the classes I took, nor do I feel it should have been taught in my classes. And the size of the drainage pipe seemed plausible, if they had said that it was a 1/2 inch pipe it would have been obvious that it wasn't sufficient.

I'm hoping that was one of my questions that didn't count....not that it matters, I passed with or without getting it right.

I'm pretty sure there is an entire field of architects that can and should be able to answer that question - but I truly believe that one was over the top for an appraiser's test.
