Should you buy a Mac?

Is it worth twice the cost of a comparable windows pc?

Scott,
I purchased a the low end of the iMac desktop for $1000 (used my
$100 rebate from the iPhone) and gave it as a gift. The MacBook
Pro (soon to known as Leadbelly) was given to me, but was
purchased in bulk by a Apple connection, and I understand it
was 50% off list.

Jobs announced the thinnest computer, Air, yesterday.

It is probably more expensive by 25% to go Mac, but
the software really does run nice. And though I've only
used support once, a phone call, it was a much better
experience than calling MS.

I now have Parallels and Windows XP professional but haven't installed it completely yet (husband thought we had a windows OS but it turned out to be an upgrade so not a full version). Will let you know how it goes once it is up and running.

I have an iMac Pro running Parallels and so far so good.

Some one asked about price and the answer is YES. This thing NEVER crashes.

You can purchase Parallels for about $80 from Best Buy or you can get Boot Camp from Apple for Free. Parallels creates a virtual machine on your PC and allows to you switch from the Apple side to the Windows side very quickly. Set-up is very easy - even for the beginner. With BootCamp - you have to reboot to get to the other side. Both solutions require you to have a full version of Windows to install.

CP,

Let me know if you have any issues with Apex or any of our other programs and I'll try to address them right away.

...
After I play with it a while, I'll be sure to let you know. At this point I have installed my old Apex 3.2 license on my Mac under crossover (didn't want to deal with licensing issues of turning Medina off and on.) It seems to run fine. Integration between Apex 3.2 and ClickFORMS has always been an issue. A couple of error messages appear when Apex is launched from ClickFORMS, but Apex does open and does attempt to send the file back to ClickFORMS. I will fiddle with the integration tool and file locations a bit. Even in it's current state, it is usable.

I will try Medina eventually. I did not start with it because I am using a Win98 "bottle" to run the programs at this time. I can now run all the programs I need for residential appraising on my Mac without running Windows too.:new_smile-l:

Thanks, CP!

Not sure about your Medina licensing issues, but if it is causing a problem and I can understand it well enough to have it fixed, I will. Let me know if I need to have someone contact you to get more of the gory details, LOL

Seems to work.

It's nothing major, just that the online registration doesn't work for me so any change requires a phone call. I've installed Medina as a demo. It seems to work well enough that I'm going to move my license off of the Parallels installation.

CP:

Send me a private email with your contact info and a good time to call and I'll get Brian Woolard to contact you. It MAY be something we can fix via a one-time walk-through and leave things where the on-line stuff works properly for you.

Just email me at rgarrett [at] apexwin [dot] com

Of course, you can also call tech support, but since your case is a bit different, I'd like to help grease the skids by getting personally involved with it to the extent that it'll help solve the problem... :-)

...

The registration issues were fixed when I called yesterday. Both version 3.2 and 4.1 of Apex run fine using CrossOver when launched from ClickFORMS, but neither will transfer data or the sketch back into the program. Version 3.2 will launch as a stand alone application, but 4.1 only launches via ClickFORMS. I will likely just use a work around to transfer the sketch, but another option is WinSketch. WinSketch is fully functional and transfers everything automatically.

As well as Apex works in CrossOver, it would be nice if the transfer could be fixed. Likely it is something missing in CrossOver rather than an actual problem in Apex or ClickFORMS.
