Slow 2017 In Socal?

Hello fellow appraisers, just wondering how everybody started your 2017, my workload dropped at bottom since after the low mortgage rates by end of 2016...
I am trying to apply for other AMCs, any suggestions which and which areas of non-lending companies should I look for?
Also I was wondering if most lending companies and/or AMCs are trying to engage staff appraisers rather than fee appraisers.
I am also trying to build a decent website, I used to have alamode but almost never used it before its expiration, any sites should I look for help in designing?
I'm trying to get busy while I'm free but getting worried in not making any living as my family depends on it.
Thanks in advance!

Give the website a bit more thought. There is a lot of competition for keywords and the relevant key words are very expensive. Might not be worth the hassle. My old supervisor still has an alamode xsite from 15 years ago but never got 1 order from it.

I'm slowing down a lot and I've seeing an inventory increase. Be prepared to be slow for a while hopefully it naturally picks back up.

If you are truly motivated, print out some fancy business cards and go get non-lender work.

I've been paid $200+ by Realtors to measure and make professional floor plans. Sometimes they use the information to negotiate if the public records is showing a higher GLA than what actually is. Sometimes they want to tell people it is appraiser measured.

FBSO appraisals? Look at listings and call the sellers. "a professional appraisal might help sell your home." But be prepared for hell if the value comes in lower then the selling thinks.

Maybe buy a drone and offer a measure + video service?

If you're looking for stability, think about a staff position. I get emails, some offer full benefits, bonus, etc. Better than starving.

Good call on measuring.

I just did an appraisal 1 mile from me. Whole subdivision of say 75 houses had discrepancy from MLS and tax records.

Tomorrow for sure gonna knock on doors and email realtors.

Reminds me, a friend used to work for a construction defect litigation company. Would get whole communities together and sue the developers. Getting your business card in their office might help.

I know for a fact that a lot of those newer tract homes put patio and balcony areas into GLA.
