Solar Value

just face the facts.

The OP got screwed, the solar is costing him money every month and he now needs someone to blame for that.

In walks the appraiser.

It costs the same to build one solar panel to the next, given the same K rating. But, put it in the desert, and it's super efficient at hitting that K number much more often, year round, then if you put it in the north with snow and shade much more rain, and clouds. Nobody lowers the cost of the panels if you're putting the panels up north.

So where can better absorb the cost of the panels? It aint New York, or PA or Maine, or New Hampshire or Vermont, or Illinois or Michigan or Montana when compared to California, Arizona, Texas and Florida. But the AI can't say that. It'll be against the official government meme.

There is also a reason they don't build outdoor in ground pools in Alaska too.

The DCF does not work, as there is no reasonable expectation that net metering will be mandated/provided/allowed in the future.

Unless of course someone can show me legislation that insures net metering is available for at least the next 15 years, to cover the loans for these things. Otherwise, like the 1970's this is a fad, a distraction, and a money grab, no different than the 1970's.

..
You are ignoring the facts.

Read my reply with the correct numbers - stop being ignorant!

Except all of your numbers are WRONG!

Here are the correct figures (sorry for not posting sooner)
Initial Cost - $29,328
Less NYS Tax Credit - $5000
Less Federal Tax Credit - $8799
System Net Cost - $15,529

On-bill Solar Loan - payment $109 per month, term 15 years @ 3.49%

My electric bills throughout the year ranged between $110-$230 per month (higher in the Summer months)

It's not a story - those are the numbers, educate yourself!

Option 1, first bullet point and I QUOTE "The current interest rate is 3.49% for residential loans and 2.5% interest for small business and not-for-profit loans. Interest rates are subject to change."

Now see Mikey,

Yesterday I told you the original numbers you posted were wrong, and did not work.

And now you post all different numbers and it's my fault.

Math is a wonderful thing.

But again,

Your loan is costing you more than you are saving, unless you are today going to decide you are now saving more than you were yesterday.

You made a choice to pay a bank instead of the electric company.

Good for you! You're government is happy.

Now don't forget to notify your accountant so that you can pay Federal and State taxes on the "savings" you are not paying the electric company, but are now paying the bank for.

Good job

Boost those GDP numbers!

Solar-rate changes will add about $50 to the average solar customer's monthly bill, mostly through a new "demand charge" based on their peak power demand during the month. The charge will be levied no matter how much the electricity the customers take from SRP is offset by production from their solar panels.

The rate changes will begin to take effect in April, with a basic service fee increasing again next year.

Well Randolph,

Good thing this isn't for New York,

Because then Mikey would only be saving $25-$50 a month on the electric bill and still paying the bank $109 a month for the privilege, and reporting income taxes on $75-$100 a month in "savings" on usage.

yummm sour grape flavored Kool Aid.

Math makes the world go round.

Randolph,
Here's why they sent the letter. Not the headline, but the graph. I've been wondering how it is Natural Gas doesn't get cheaper to utility customers. I'm thinking its because we don't really buy natural gas, we are paying for retirement and medical programs for the gas company.

Did I tell you the surefire plan to become mega rich? Well, it's saving money you didn't spend and all the taxes you didn't pay. The biggest money savers are all the green initiatives. Buying green cars, green energy systems, etc., all create money you did not spend or pay taxes on and therefore with the savings, you can buy even more money savers. Before long, you have spent yourself rich! ;)

What a mess... this will be an on-going battle between solar companies, utilities and Main St America... we'll see who wins this battle.
For sure it won't be Main St America. Anyone remember the rolling brown outs in CA and Enron??
We are definitely sizing up for a real battle.

Living Green,

A clothes line, a wash board, a wood burning fireplace with a sturdy pot hanging over the middle of it and an outhouse.

1860 all over again. Doesn't get much "greener" than that.
