Companies today follow your social media accounts and can hold you accountable for what you say or do. It's bull****, but we live in a corporate world where the laws are skewed heavily to the company and investors. So I don't blame them for keeping quiet.
But make no mistake, every staff appraiser hates their job. If they don't today, give it 6 months. The only thing worse than putting up with all the bull**** in this profession for $500-$700 a report is putting up with it for a 40% cut of that. And that's on the high end.
I know guys that have run appraisal mills. They had to fight daily with the "chief appraiser" that the %'s were too low and he couldn't find certified guys to work that cheap. And when he told them the AMC wasn't paying a high enough fee, they were told tough ****, we never turn down a job, regardless of fee - it's your job to find a stooge to do it. It's an endless cycle, where you will always lose in the end.
But for some, it carries them through some tough months and pays the bills. Barely. That should be the motto of the appraisal orgs - "come be an appraiser, it will pay the bills and keep the lights on, at least for a little while". And to think firms like RSDS is actually targeting minorities to get into this ****show.
I feel so bad for them.
