I put Norton Anti virus and Internet Security (not sure if this is the exact program(s) name, 2, 2 ,2 programs in 1 CD) on my new computer with Win XP. Shields Up said all was safe, except the universal plug and pray, which Shields Up can help you disable with a small free program (easy to re enable if you need it). That Shields Up site seems really useful. Also make sure to get the latest patches from MicroSoft, even with a new machine.

To further demonstrate my limited knowledge, these programs go to the Web site during the night and update themselves.

The only time I become aware of the Norton is when it goes off -- which just happens to be almost every time I go to the Web MLS site. Lately, it hits on and then goes down right away, so it must be sensitive.

Sounds like you have it set to check all incoming messages (e-mail). That is good, it is should do that.
