No. I'm a writer and I'm working with a company to publish. I'm happy to speak via direct message if you want details!

Don't we have a few of these threads already?

I know I started one a few years back on spooky vacant homes. Glenn's stories really creeped me out:
Spooky Encounters

I know there was another thread too on other "interesting" inspections. I remember one of the stories was the appraiser finding the owner at the bottom of the stairs with a broken neck. Was that yours too Glenn?
Thank you for pointing those out to me! I'd love more current stories as well.

I was inspecting a single family house on a Saturday, did the first and second floor and told the owner I needed to look in the basement. This seemed to bring her great joy. Apparently she knew her sister had passed out naked on the couch the night before.

Many stories, here is one

Appraised a SFR with detached garage. Man acted very paranoid the whole time. Detached garage was padlocked and he said he didn’t have a key. Noted this and went about my way.

Two weeks later a massive drug bust occurs at the property. The detached garage was a large marijuana grow shop.

He probably thinks I ratted him

i have more than my fair share.... nudists, bribery, false accusations, drug related stories, people in witness protection programs, outright lies by sellers/agents/builders and more. i'd be happy to contribute to your book for a nominal fee :)

Escorted into drug house by Federal Marshals just after they completed the bust and removal of evidence. ..and yes, the way they show the police snatching out drawers, ripping stuff out of closets, flipping beds, etc on TV is true.

Doing an REO vacant Row home in the city. The flooring was suspect and the whole place was a littered mess. Walking towards the rear door I stepped on a big piece of wall paneling when suddenly it gave way and I fell. Luckily I caught the floor with my arms and was able to pull myself up. Someone was squatting in the place and deliberately made the trap by removing old flooring and using the paneling to hide it. Be careful on what you walk on!

Vacant house in a rural setting. Did my thing on the first floor then went to the basement stairway. Was about to walk down when I noticed something odd...a leaf floating in midair above the steps. Water up to the top step.

With Tres on the list of other things I've run into.

Favorite story is while training a new guy to measure houses: Go around back and talking about this or that and we hear the sound of chainlink fencing being disturbed. We both look to see a large pitbull finish scooting under the fence and stop to stare at us. Trainee turns to me and asks "What should we do?" only to find I am already 15 feet away and accelerating. Best lesson ever. Trainee was fine btw...dog did not follow.

I'm putting together a collection of 'horror' stories about nightmare, funny, or otherwise entertaining stories involving what real estate appraisers encounter while inspecting properties. They will eventually be published. Would you mind sharing your own personal stories? I'm happy to hop on the phone with anyone, or you DM me your story here. Thank you for your help.

i had a townhouse appraisal once where my 3rd comp was OUTSIDE the subjects subdivision. i almost quit but persevered. what doesnt kill you makes you stronger. pain is weakness leaving the body. i think you get the idea of my troubles.
