Tablet rec.

I heard that Apple dropped the wide angle rear facing camera for the latest iPad. What is the best model that still had a wide angle rear facing camera?

    • iPad Pro 11-inch (2nd, 3rd, and 4th generations - 2020 to 2022): Include a 12MP Wide and 10MP Ultra Wide rear camera system.
    • Newer models like the M4 iPad Pro and recent iPad Air models have reverted back to a single main rear Wide-angle lens rather than dual rear lenses. Meanwhile, almost all modern iPads (including base models, Air, and Pro) feature an Ultra Wide front-facing camera for Center Stage video calls, which is different from a rear wide-angle zoom setup.
This is off AI. So you will need to verify. It sounds to me like it can still be wide angle. It just doesn’t have 2 lenses. I would call apple support and ask them. They are really good about giving you information.

Also if you have a Best Buy close by you should just go and try them out. My IPAD (IPad pro 2nd Generation) does have a wide angle lens on the back, which works pretty well. I just use my IPHONE, so can’t tell you how it works in the field.

My wife has a newer IPAD with the M chip. It runs kind of hot. She hasn’t had any problems with it though. I love my IPAD. I use it all the time as a kind of laptop. And if you get an IPAD get the IPAD keyboard. It is expensive, but you will not regret it. Makes that IPAD very functional. I have had my IPAD and keyboard for 5 years. Still runs like new.

I am just curious for you computer geeks. How much time does the Ipad save you vs going back to office and typing in the data at your desk?

Yeah, they did. Just get a preowned refurb from Amazon. Must be M1 chip or newer (pro models) if you want LiDAR. Got mine for $400, it's basically a computer - great device just to have around. No need for latest model.

I prefer using a smaller 8 inch tablet in the field, using a large 10 inch or larger tablet becomes kind on cumbersome in my opinion, I use an 8 inch Galaxy tablet with a hard cover, long strap to go around neck and a handle behind the hard cover to hold it better.

It depends on how you use it, I basically use it for the subject property photos, sketch and field notes, I just have to clean up the sketch some when I get back, but I don't have to do the entire sketch again, all my subject property photos are already done and in the report, so I don't have to upload those into the report.

It's just like a clipboard and paper, except it's electronic, once you use it (tablet in the field) 10-15 times, it becomes second nature. I like becuase I am not doing things twice, I am not drawing the sketch at the property and then doing the sketch on a computer later and I'm not taking the subject property photos and then uploading them into the report.

I usually use my clipboard to shade my camera lens when taking pics outside. How do you handle facing the sun and glare with the iPad?
