The above and more is Lanham's problem. Just because he "didn't do it" doesn't make him a racist though. Just sloppy. Wrong house, wrong time to be sloppy....which could be, if the lawyers can spin it to win it, construed as biased.
The Narrative is definitely on the couple's side.

So what is your point? Thanks for background story.
This differential between the appraisals, and the fact that Lanham came in under $75,000 compared to their loanDepot’s loan officer’s conservative estimate, form the basis of Connolly and Mott’s claim against Lanham. Their lawsuit describes Lanham as “indifferent,” “aloof,” never smiling or making eye contact and, more importantly, a racist because of how he selected his comps and completed the appraisal of their home.
What's that about? Sounds like LoanDepot distancing themselves from Shane?
All I've seen, so far, is evidence that TAF paid the same law firm that is representing the plaintiffs in the suit against Shane Lanham. The post says..... "Legal Services". There has been no evidence offered regarding what legal services TAF was paying for, when the law firm was engaged for those services, whether TAF knew about the suit against Lanham at the time they chose that law firm, and no evidence that TAF is supporting the Lanham lawsuit. You got something more than an account statement showing a payment for legal services? Let's see it.If the story is true, that an appraisal organization such as TAF, which I assumed was professional and neutral, is paying significant funds, or any funds, to an attorney to destroy the reputation of an individual appraiser, it very much is our business. As in, literally, we can all lose business income along with a professional reputation as a whole over these suits.
Fannie and Freddie have failed to challenge the higher value appraisals and accept them as credible by not challenging or questioning their credibility publicly or in committee meetings - as far as I am aware. That feeds into the narrative that there is an "appraisal bias problem" that needs further study. Do you think that has not already hurt us? It already has. And I don't mean just about not using certain words, which we can accommodate.
Leaving these suits not opposed and prone to settle will further damage everyone in the profession wrt trust and reputation. If you think banks and companies want to throw business to a profession tainted with the charge of racism, think again.
The entities, agencies, and private companies who profit from promoting alternative valuations are using this issue as leverage to claim their products will avoid the taint of racial bias, with the assumption that appraisals have that as an issue.
