Jo Ann,

I apologize for any problems you've experienced in trying to contact technical support. I've looked at your account and see why you didn't get an immediate response on your Support Request. Let me explain.

Your original support request was submitted on Sunday, which is outside your support hours. Monday was a holiday, so we were not able to follow-up with you until Tuesday. Since that time we've made several attempts to contact you. Don't worry, your ticket is still open and as of this writing I've got another technician contacting you.

In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns don’t hesitate to contact me directly. Also, if there is a preferred number and time to call let me know. My e-mail address is joseph@alamode.com.

I got several phone calls this morning, spent an hour and a half with tech support attempting to solve my problem. They did come up with some work arounds. I will be creating a new file in an hour or two and I will find out if they work. At the moment the file I am working on is keeping the exhibits correctly--but then I am not completely done yet. So keep your fingers crossed for me that they stay put.

Good thing I read this thread as I had no idea you could just add .pdfs to the reports like that. :D I have been printing my report to .pdf and then merging the other .pdfs I wanted in the final report through my .pdf software. I guess I should really sit down one day and go through the whole software and see what it really does.

Haven't created my new file yet but the work around tech support told me to do is----first do not have any exhibits where I add a pdf or scanned document in my template. When I create a new file then I can add any pdf or scanned document to the file, but I do have to add all the documents I want in that file one right after another. I shouldn't add a document, then do something else, save the file, exit, then open again and try to add another document. Doing it out of sequence compared to all in one swoop seems to scramble the computers little brain and the documents over ride each other. So that is what I will do next. Also tech support discovered I have to lock specific fields in my template so that information doesn't jump around. If the fields are not locked in my template I can't get them to lock in the file I have merged from the template.

Tech support did dial into my computer so they could see what was happening which went a loooonnng way toward them understanding what my frustrations were. So the day is looking brighter.

So if you add say, 6 files and then decide after saving that you need to add another, you have to delete the 6 and then redo them all? That's what I've been doing, but I was hoping that there was a better way around it.

I read this whole string......just waiting on Tech Support to post.....like I knew they would. :)

I also know how frustrating working with computers can be, and add to that the learning curve of a new software, and it gives a person a reason to drink!

Especially like the feature that the tech guys use when they log onto your computer and look at your problems.....because I am not computer literate enough to explain my problems so that they understand me. :)

Now, if I can just get brave enough for the learning curve for Aurora, and quit using my old Athena.

Now to show my real ignorance. What type of PDF file are you adding to your report?

A have Adobe Writer 7 installed on my computer. I print assessor's maps, legal descriptions, graphs, etc, etc, etc using that program. I have a folder on my desk top that I put all those pdfs in. Then when I am in Aurora, click on Add, click on document from pdf, I go to that folder and select the pdf I want in the report. I am not 100% sure if I would be able to add another pdf in a different session of working on the report--since talking to tech support I have been very carefull to not add pdfs until I am sure of all the ones I want to add. The big problem appeared to be my template--if something exists in the template then the new created file has problems. So I had to remove my graphs I use in ever file from my template so there were not added pdfs in the template, do the locking of various blanks in the template, etc, etc. It seems you can't change your mind when working in a file that was created by merging with a template. What ever was in the original template overrides any changes made to the new file. So I am gradually fine tuning my templates and things are going smoother. The dial in tech support was a big help. With Day One the last few years that was automatic, when I called in for help, the first thing they did was dial into my computer, then we could discuss and solve the problem immediately.

I've been using Ala Mode for years. Their support staff is always very good to work with. The software is a resource hog. We run 6 workstations connected to a server the size of a greyhound bus. That is what it takes to our wintotal world go around. Be patient. The software is better than a pencil and legal pad.
