The Damaclean Sword - When will it fall and Upon Whom?

That might require declaring bankruptcy. Pelosi has said that's off the table
Actually, its very much on the table because by flying to Congress in jets, the auto makers turned a slam dunk into a double dribble. They simply cannot wait until the next Congress for action. I think they all three will go into default by Jan. 20. Therefore, they all will end up in Ch. 11. Their fate will be in the hands of the court or they will have to pre-arrange a bailout via the bankruptcy judge. Merger will not help. One analyst placed GM's yearend stock price at zero.

By the way, Ford and GM apparently are shedding some of their jets which are mostly leased.

A big adjustment for every ones life style is yet to come. I have no doubt we will muddle through this, some better then others. For most the sun will come up tomorrow and it will set again, life will go on, business will go on, income will go on regardless of how meager it might be.

A person will need to adapt, row with the flow, seek out opportunities, form alliances, reduce expenses, maintain income stream.

Trim the fat; do we really need cable, do we really need satellite TV, does each child need a TV/ Stereo in there room. Do we need to eat out four times a week, do we need the pre packaged foods from the store, to we need to go to the football game, baseball game, do we need to go from NY to Disney World, do we need four cars, do we need full coverage on car insurance, do we need that new dress or suit every couple of months, do we need that new truck or car. Can we get the snow blower repaired instead of replacing it. Same for the mower. Can I fix this myself instead of paying some one to do it.

Just my view.

Heard a guy today say that the Feds should buy the big 3 out and appoint Pelosi, Reid, and Frank as CEOs of one each, since they seem to think they know how best to run these companies. :rof:
I think we can do a better job. I'll take Gm, they have plenty of brands for inbreeding. Which other two do you want?

Excellent Mr. Miller. I'm afraid doing without the luxuries will be easier for some than others.

The underprivileged need to experience all those activities, its their right, under the incoming admins plan. If they can't get there on their own, a gov't bus will come along, carrying gov't tickets to a gov't sponsored Disney world. The new president comes wearing his Mickey ears, but nobody should say anything, as the Emperors new clothes or ears are clearly off limits. JFK was killed 45 years ago, Jim Jones committed mass suicide 30 years ago. Which cult of personality does Obama "the Messiah" most resemble?:new_all_coholic:

Very telling post Mr. Rex! Does the Secret Service have your home number?

Who stole my idea!!!
Well... actually never thought it wuld be sold to Toy, figured new company (( Nu_GM ?? )) financed by the Fed would buy all the assets and keep producing autos ,,,,,with new non-union contracts.

Methinks, UAW notwithstanding, GM would find life under the thumb of Toyota preferable to that under Congress.

Yes we are in a depression, we would be lucky if it only turns out to be a rough recession. But we will get through it, with some mental toughness and thinking for ourselves instead of letting the media send us out to the ledge with every new announcement. Like Lawrence said, many people got rich during the 30's and many are making money now. Do the opposite of what your emotions tell you and your investments will do fine. Everyone knows it is going to be rough for the next couple years, we are in a financial "war", but those people who need to stand up in their foxhole and shout we are all going to die every 15 minutes or so sure wear thin. Grow some onions and deal with it, there are many worse things in life to deal with...

thinking for ourselves instead of letting the media send us out to the ledge
It is unfortunate that the media, which may have a few grains of truth to espouse, is mostly a sandpile of piffle. We cannot figure out who was right and who was wrong until post-event. Hindsight is our only guide. The media is selling garbage.

When the housing was in a fully blown and obvious bubble, the media was screaming "quick, get in before home prices get so high you cannot afford it!" When it started to peak, they preached doom for housing but predicted "no contagin to the greater market." When housing augered into a death spiral, they were still saying, "No problem for commercial. We are not, I repeat NOT in a recession." Finally, well into 2007, they finally admitted the potential for recession.....now look at the mess. The media has done a complete about face and is preaching doom and gloom. And who knows?
