Sporting Clays

What an awful thing to say.

I've got gunlocks on all my shotguns. Do you think I should keep one of them at my bedside with no lock so I don't have to fumble for the keys, find the shells, load it up and blast the intruder? Should I use one of the 12 gauges or the 20 gauge and should I load it with trap loads, field loads or buckshot? On the one hand the field loads would probably discourage most intruders and would not be as messy as the buckshot, not to mention less time explaining a body in the hallway to the cops.

Greg,

Actually I would use Sporting Clay loads.:) If you were to shoot an intruder at say 15-20' with 7.5's it would not be pretty. I Grouse hunt in the great Northern Woods and at that distance I have cut the tops of trees out say 2-3" in diameter. Shotguns at close range even without slugs will put "the" hurt on them.

Only rarely do I get a flat tire on my car. But the occasion of it happening is so inconvenient that I carry a spare tire, a car jack, an air pump, an AAA Emergency assistance card, a GM Motor Club card, and an OnStar subscription. All that just as insurance against so unlikely an event.

In comparison I put a lot less expense and effort into making sure I am not a victim of criminal activity. But I do plan for such an contingency. Just as I plan for a flat tire.

I'm sure you also have band-aids in case you get a cut.

But when was the last time you heard of spare tires and band-aids taking a life?

Carrying a gun might make you fell safer, but you have know idea how you will react when/if confronted. You might get a happy trigger finger and shot yourself, the lady next to you, the safety might still be on and the criminal grabs it from you and shots you. But hey...if carrying a gun makes you feel safer then go for it. I think you're asking for more trouble than it worth. Personally, I fell safer without one.

Actually, I do own two 19" guns and they are attached to my body.

They're all I need!

Hello! Ford Explorer roll overs nearly put a tire company out of business! There are far more deaths from septic shock than either gunshot wounds or swimming pool deaths combined.

Guns are tools. Like all tools, they require proper training and handling to use effectively. Lake many other tools, if used improperly they can harm the user or others.

Owning a gun is simply a personal choice. If you have any reservations about taking a life when you or family are threatened then I suggest you not own a gun. We all know this is a dangerous world. There are people from other countries who would like to see Americans dead. There are criminals in our society who have no respect for life. We have people taking mind-altering drugs that make them incapable of rational decisions. Then we have a current economic problem that may soon result in people taking what they need to survive. Can there be civil unrest in the USA? Can a committee of good neighbors come to your house to confiscate food for the common good? Does OUR government lie to us? Does our government give our tax money to the rich while the poor sleep under the bridge? History teaches many lessons.
Saddam has weapons of mass destruction. I did not have sex with that woman, Monica. I smoked but did not inhale. Your president is NOT A CROOK!I own a gun! :new_2gunsfiring_v1:

People sleep under bridges because they choose to do so. The inner-city public housing resident who just popped out her 14th kid on the public's dime at the hospital where my step-daughter works doesn't sleep under a bridge. And her multiple children of unknown parentage aren't going hungry. I'm just so happy that I am forced to contribute to the continuation of that lifestyle.

Ken,
I used to believe as you do. I have spent some time looking into the facts and suggest you may want to also. There are 1 out of 8 people in the US receiving food stamps right now. About 44% of these "people" are children. At school, children gourge on food on Fridays because they know they will have no food over the weekend. Does a child choose to sleep under a bridge? Check out the poverty in the US before you believe EVERYONE chooses to sleep under the bridge. All the children can do is cry! Reality is going to come visit all of us! If you check this out it should change your opinion. It changed mine and I spend time at the food bank and other food related drives. Join us! :clapping:

I understand the kids...they have no choice and I am empathic. I have some very personal experience with kids that are homeless as a result of the poor decisions and/or poor mental health of the parent.

It's the adults that spend their lives eating at the public trough that are my issue.

Ken,
I completely understand what you are saying. However, I have learned some interesting facts that did not make me happy. In MY GREAT STATE OF TEXAS you can see oil wells pumping, gas wells spewing, pine trees as far as your eyes can see. We have cattle, crops, shipping, refining, NASA, we have high-rise office and commercial buildings creating some of the best city views in the US. Take a look at Houston, Dallas/FW, San Antonio, Austin, El Paso, etc. Texas is also home to a higher share of hungry children than any other state. Of all the counties in the enitre US, Texas has the first, second and third poorest counties. I find this to be unbelievable!
My daughter volunteers at a food pantry every Monday. She told me of a woman and her daughter who came to get food yesterday. The little blond four-year old was so appreciative to receive the Herseys Kiss's that Sharon gave her at a treat. Who knows why this woman and child would be so needy? Maybe we should have some compassion! It is so easy to judge other people. What was that saying about walking a mile in their shoes?

On the flip side, my step-daughter works in the maternity ward of an inner-city hospital and has weekly horror stories of babies born addicted to crack and other various drugs, teenage mothers popping out their third kid with Momma sitting in the room demanding that someone go get her a soda, women trying to sneak out in the middle of the night and leaving their baby at the hospital, hookers with multiple kids with multiple unknown fathers, etc, etc. The new one this week was the women who slept with tissue paper in her ears. My step-daughter hadn't seen that one before, so she asked why. She was told it kept the roaches out while sleeping. The hospital doesn't have roaches. Imagine the home where that baby will live.

What is truly amazing is the level of poverty a few generations of entitlements has created. It's Halloween everyday to millions of "Americans".
