The End Of Appraisers!

It scares me to think how many people there are out there walking around with guns on them. Standing right next my family.

In Florida, about 1 in 10 have concealed carry permits. We have received proper education, an FBI check, demonstrated our skills and a stable emotional balance. I wouldn't worry about the folks with CC permits. Worry about the ones who DON'T have them.

Exactly....

Well thats just fine and dandy. My point is that there are more family shooting accidents because of gun possession than there are actual cases of having a gun actually protecting a family against a criminal. Suppose you go to shoot the intruder and you miss, and it goes through a wall killing one of your kids or wife. Could you live with that?

I chose to keep deadly weapons out of my house. What is wrong with a tazer or stun gun? You or your kids cannot kill themselves with one of those, yet it will completely immobilize any intruder. And here's the best part. Everybody stays alive, and you get to enjoy watching the criminal rot in jail. Killing them would be letting them off the hook.
Thats just my view on it.

My stun gun broke years ago! So I keep a Samurai sword & .50 cal next to my bed. Along with a flash light, fire extinguisher and a fire escape ladder under the bed. Granted the .50 cal is just 1/3 of a barrel from and old M2 Browning but I do sleep better knowing it's there. It will bust a skull in 1/2 with 1 strike. :new_snipersmilie:

Maybe. But I think I got my point across.

I beg to differ.

The reality of discussion is that it matters not if the speaker thinks he made his point. It matters if the receiver thinks the speaker made his point.

I'm not seeing much support from the receivers.

Or you could have a conflict with someone, they pull a gun and you aren't going to take it because you're going to be a big man and protect yourself, so you go to pull yours, and Bang, you're dead.

So we have one gun held by a criminal, nobody dies. Two guns, one dead. Now suppose eveybody in the store felt threatened and they all pulled their guns. It would be a massacre.

You have been watching too many movies.

Let's get real. Someone who would pull a gun during a simple disagreement with another person is not a person of reason or emotional control. People who pull guns on other people are likely to use it at one point or another.

So you manage to grovel your way out of getting shot...the shooter leaves and, hyped up on whatever, pulls out the gun and shoots the old lady who bumped into him as he was enjoying his illusion of badassness.

Good job there you.

Amen to that!

I concur.

Only rarely do I get a flat tire on my car. But the occasion of it happening is so inconvenient that I carry a spare tire, a car jack, an air pump, an AAA Emergency assistance card, a GM Motor Club card, and an OnStar subscription. All that just as insurance against so unlikely an event.

In comparison I put a lot less expense and effort into making sure I am not a victim of criminal activity. But I do plan for such an contingency. Just as I plan for a flat tire.

How in the :new_ukliam2: did THIS post get turned into ANOTHER endless gun debate??
Ya'll need to get a life, get a job! I've been a little slow myself this month as I've only sold 2 houses last week, but I'm back out beating the pavement looking for my next deal after taking a long weekend.

Hey Calvin-
Freakonomics is one of my favorite recent reads...just picked up Superfreakonomics.

Speaking of gun use...

Did you get a chance to read "The Tipping Point" by Gladwell? An interesting read and a good section on gun use by the NY vigilante Bernie Goetz back in 1984. Another "tipping point" could be found looking at that appraiser in NY who was ready to shoot Cuomo.

Personally, I have a nice aluminum baseball bat at the side of my bed. Haven't really felt the need, but I'm thinking of upgrading to a gun. I've certainly appraised in some 'hoods where I would have felt a little more secure with a gun.

Just read SuperFreakonomics myself. It's even better than the first book and left me feeling pretty good about things like global climate change.

Tipping Point was a good read also. I haven't yet read Outliers but if you like Malcolm Gladwell, you'll like Blink. The openning chapter is essentially an appraisal story.
