A goodly number of hotels provide highspeed internet access. Just carry a phone and magicjack with you to call "back home" without incurring long distance charges.

I just purchased the Magic Jack and have two question. Can you just take the Magic Jack with you and plug it into another computer, say from my desktop to my laptop without any problems? Do you need to down load a program on the other computer?

I have used it on several laptops and a desktop. Files will be downloaded on the computer(s) used when you plug it into a usb port.

All of a sudden my computer shows I do not have a sound card installed. Could this be caused by the Magic Jack

In limited use, I find that there is a delay in voice transmission, causing you to "walk on" the other party who is trying to talk at the same time.

Whatever happens, be it good or bad, it's Magic. If you are using a product like that, you can not expect 100% productivity.

You have to expect interference and downtime. When the net is down, so is your phone. The service can also be easily be impacted by installing and uninstalling various programs.

I got my magic jack last week and it works ok for voice but I cannot get it to work with my fax line. I think I am going to send it back. It's good to have the 30 day trial period.

Magicack is not designed to work with a fax machine.

I use my fax machine with my MagicJack line all the time and it works great. My fax is a two year old Panasonic.

The FAQ at MagicJack read:

Can I send and receive faxes using magicJack?
Sometimes.

We do not officially support using faxing with magicJack.

Please try the following steps to use magicJack with your fax (contact your fax vendor for details):

  1. Turn off error correction on your fax machine or program
  2. Set the fax machine or program to use the slowest speed available
  3. Increase the speed, checking at each speed that faxes work
